Governor of Meghalaya, Mr Satya Pal Malik will deliver the Sir Syed Day commemorative speech as the Chief Guest in an online function on October 17

Aligarh: Former Union Minister and current Governor of Meghalaya, Mr Satya Pal Malik will deliver the Sir Syed Day commemorative speech as the Chief Guest in an online function on October 17 beginning from 11 am.

The annual Sir Syed Day function will feature the distribution of Sir Syed Excellence Awards 2020. Eminent historian and reputed author, Dr Gail Minault will receive the award in the international category, while Anjuman-I-Islam, Mumbai based educational conglomerate will be conferred with the award in the national category. AMU Young Researcher of the Year Award will also be conferred on Dr Inamuddin (Department of Applied Chemistry).

During the online celebrations, AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor will deliver the welcome address and the Registrar, Mr Abdul Hamid (IPS) will read the citations for the awardees. Prof Mujahid Beg, DSW will extend the vote of thanks.

The programme will also have speeches by faculty members, Prof Vibha Sharma and Prof Shakeel Ahmad Samdani, and two AMU students. The winners of the All India Essay Writing Competition will virtually receive prizes and certificates.

The proceedings of the day will begin with a Quran Khwani (Quranic Recitation) and a floral tribute at the Mazaar (grave) of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, at 6 and 7 am respectively.

The day-long celebrations will also feature inauguration of a virtual ‘Exhibition of Books and Photographs’ pertaining to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan at MA Library at 9 am. The day-long celebrations also include the virtual inauguration of the Centenary Gate at the northern side of the Aligarh Muslim University campus by Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the Chancellor of the University, at 5 pm.
