Governor of Sikkim paid visit to Rangpo
In order to have first hand information on the ongoing process, protocols, preparedness and logistics at the screening centre at the Rangpo border check post in East Sikkim, Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad paid visit to Rangpo on 6th May. He was accompanied by Addl. Chief Secretary to Governor Dr. K Jayakumar and other officers.
In a formal interaction held at Rangpo Tourist Lodge, Chief Medical Officer East District Dr. Tshering Laden apprised the Hon’ble Governor on the detailed process of screening at the facility created near the check post on the arrival of Sikkimese from other states. She stated that the since the arrival of Sikkimese from various parts of the country as per the guidelines of the government started on 5th May, the screening process and sending the persons to various facility quarantine centres have begun. CMO further apprised about the mandatory COVID 19 test of persons sent to facility quarantines within 5 days for further process and protocols. Director Health Services Dr. Sonam T. Ethenpa and SDM Rangpo Shri Prem Kamal rai were also present during the briefing.
Hon’ble Governor expressed his pleasure on the state of preparedness and precautions being ensured at the Rangpo Check Post by the frontline COVID warriors including Health professionals, Police and members of Civil Administration. As a token of encouragement to the COVID warriors, Hon’ble Governor handed over the consignment of sanitizers, face masks and ready to eat food packets to all three wings of frontline workers i.e. health, police and civil administration.
On his return journey, Hon’ble Governor made a brief stop over at facility quarantine centres at Himalayan Hostel, Khanikhola and SMIT Girls Hostel, Majhitar and handed over the ready to eat food packets meant for students under quarantine to the in-charge of the respective centres. He stressed on the absolute discipline, safety and precautions to be followed in each centres in view of the gradual increase in the number of occupants and the flow of Sikkimese coming to the State from outside
