Govt. Degree College Sidhra organized an extension lecture on “World Blood Donor Day”
Jammu: Red Ribbon Club Govt. Degree College Sidhra in collaboration with J&K Aids Control Society, H&ME Department, JMC Jammu organized an extension lecture on “World Blood Donor Day”.The theme of the lecture was “Voluntary Blood Donation”. The online programme was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Monika Sharma, Principal GDC Sidhra and Assistant Director Rajesh Sharma and Project Director, Dr Samir Mattoo J&K AIDS Control Society H&ME department. The resource person on the occasion was Dr. Meena Sidhu from blood bank SMGS hospital Jammu. The programme was inaugurated with a welcome address by Dr. Satbir Kour Nodal Officer Red Ribbon Club, GDC Sidhra. As 14th of June is celebrated as World Blood Donor Day, GDC Sidhra took an initiative to orient the students of college about importance of voluntary blood donation and impressed upon them the invaluable role that youth can play to serve humanity by donating blood. Dr. Meena Sidhu delivered a comprehensive lecture about blood donation. She talked about three types of blood donors which are Voluntary Blood Donor, Replacement Blood Donor and Professional Blood Donor. Dr. Meena Sidhu also shared the fact that a person can be regular blood donor from the age of 18-65. Dr. Meena emphasized upon the role of regular blood donation on the part of a single person by saying that the lives of approx 500 patients can be saved through regular blood donation by a person. She exhorted upon the college students and staff to come forward for their involvement in the blood donation activity. She promised to organize the blood donation camp in college premises in near future. The Programme was coordinated by Dr. Satbir Kour, Dr. Punam Rani and Prof. Mussarat Chowdhary of the GDC Sidhra. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Satbir Kour of the college.
