Govt PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar organises webinar on ‘World Ozone Day’

JAMMU : Department of Botany Government PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar today organised one day Webinar on ‘Exploring the Ozone Layer- From Discovery to Recovery’ under the Patronage of Principal Dr. Sangita Nagari and supervision of Prof. Mala Bhasin Head of the Department to commemorate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav ‘.

World Ozone Day is celebrated on September 16 every year to spread awareness among people about the depletion of the Ozone layer and search for possible solutions to preserve and protect it.

The programme started with the welcome address by Head Department of Botany Prof Mala Bhasin followed by the Words of Wisdom by the Chief Guest and Principal of the College Dr. Sangita Nagari.

Speaking on the virtual platform, she highlighted the significance of the Ozone layer, a fragile shield of gas which protects the Earth from the harmful rays of the Sun. She added that this is our prime duty to make efforts to phase out the Ozone depletion substances so as to save the human race. She congratulated Prof. Mala Bhasin Convenor, Prof. Sania Hamid, Organizing Secretary and faculty of Dept. of Botany for organising this Webinar. She applauded the students for their participation and advised them to honestly perform their role in the protection and preservation of Ozone layer.

Dr. Rakesh Atri, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Studies, University of Jammu was the Guest Speaker. He gave a detailed account of the history and Discovery of the Ozone Layer. He also threw light on the various aspects of Ozone depletion and future prospects.

A total of 90 students attended the webinar along with faculty members of the College. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Anju Koul.
