Govt Polytechnic Kathua organises webinar on “Awareness on Cyber Crime”
KATHUA : Government Polytechnic College Kathua today organized Online Webinar on “Awareness on Cyber Crime” to create awareness among the netizens about the crimes of digital era. The resource persons for webinar were cyber-crime experts Mohammad Yaseen Kichloo, SSP Security, Civil Secretariat Jammu and Engineer Vikas Razdan, Cyber Warrior, Certified Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator, Certified Cybercrime Intervention Officer (ISAC), Cyber Security Analyst, an associate member of National Cyber Safety and Security Standards and J&K Cyberyodha, who shared their vast experience and information about cyber ethics, digital footprints and IT laws. The webinar was attended by the faculty and students of various Polytechnic Colleges of J&K.
The session began with welcome address by Principal Government Polytechnic Kathua, Er. Arun Bangotra, who said that Cyber Crimes have increased during Covid-19 and cyber security has become the main focus of deliberations because of the increased dependence on virtual world for learning. He advised the students to stay vigilant and follow necessary precautions to get rid of the Cyber threats.
Er. Vikas Razdan gave detailed presentation on ethics to be maintained by the netizens. A wide range of topics like Identity theft, cyber grooming, cyber bullying, cyber stalking, sextortion, love scams, phishing, one ring scams, safeguarding social media accounts, online banking frauds, lottery frauds, remote access scams, social media privacy policy etc. were covered during the seminar and the students were made aware to restrain from disclosing their identities online and not to fell prey to the cyber criminals. It was emphasized that cyber criminals are day by day changing their modus operandi to cheat the online users and everyone should restrain from clicking on the links received on mobile and also avoid downloading the applications from third party that can give remote access to the hackers. Live Open source tools to check the data breach were done during the webinar and the participants were told to check their mail id had been part of any Data Breach and advised to add two factor authentication to their accounts on the virtual platforms as an extra security layer. Students keenly listen to the speakers and at the end students interacted with the expert related to their queries. After the session all the students thanked the resource person and College Administration for increasing their knowledge and demanded for such more sessions in near future.
