Greenwich Academic and Digital Skills Team Honored with Collaborative Teaching Award for Excellence
The University of Greenwich Academic and Digital Skills Team has been awarded the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) 2023. Introduced in 2016, the scheme highlights the key role of teamwork in higher education.
The team were recognised for transforming the way students are supported in their learning through innovative and successful initiatives that have benefited students and staff across the university and globally.
The team has been awarded for their positive impact on our students’ experience by developing new initiatives, enhancing existing services, and changing and streamlining university processes. Sharon Perera, Head of Academic and Digital Skills reflects on the award in her blogpost the little things that make a big difference. In the blog, Sharon shares how a collective vision and a strong sense of purpose spurred the team to adapt, learn and grow.
Sharon says: “Winning the prestigious CATE award is an incredible experience for the team and we’re proud of this acknowledgement of our hard work. For myself and my team, the real value of this process has been in recognising and celebrating our origins and the team values that have brought us to where we are today”.
The CATE scheme highlights the key role that teamwork plays in higher education. At Greenwich we take this further, by offering dedicated support to colleagues and teams looking to apply for these award schemes. Our Academic and Learning Enhancement team offer mentoring, guidance and practical support which has led to our first CATE award and our recent National Teaching Fellow awards, Dr Gemma Mansi (2023) and Dr Louise Hewitt (2021).
Alison Johns, Chief Executive of Advance HE, said,
“Congratulations to all of the new National Teaching Fellows and CATE teams on this prestigious accolade which recognises and rewards their commitment to teaching and learning and the impact it has on student success.”
“It is with great pride that we run these awards for the UK higher education sector designed to celebrate these passionate people who make such a difference to students’ education and to the practice of their colleagues. We look forward to working with the new NTFs and CATE winners and sharing their excellent practice with colleagues around the sector.”
