The study analysed the impact that public spending increases in the care economy, the green economy and infrastructure could have across eight countries.

It also concluded that a repeated annual increase in public spending within these three sectors would yield major economic returns across the same eight countries and create substantial new employment for a green caring just transition in emerging economies and beyond.

The speakers include:

Evelyn Astor (ITUC),
Ronald Janssen (TUAC/OECD),
David Kucera (ILO),
Boitumelo Molete (COSATU),
Geoff Tily (TUC),
Gonzalo Hernández Jiménez (former Deputy Finance Minister, Colombia),
İpek İlkkaracan (İTU),
Özlem Onaran (UoG) and Cem Oyvat (UoG),
Opening remarks by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Leigh Doster, Greenwich Business School (GBS).
Professor Özlem Onaran, co-director of the University’s Research Centre Political Economy, Governance, Finance and Accountability (PEGFA), and Associate Head of the School of Accounting, Finance & Economics (Research and Knowledge Exchange) said:

“Our report suggests that investing in the green and the care economy is key to meeting United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals for affordable and clean energy, decent work, wellbeing, gender equality, and reduced inequalities.

“Public investment must lead the way in these strategic sectors that are good for both people and the planet. These investments are even more urgent after the Covid-19 pandemic”.
