Guildhall School of Music & Drama: Guildhall Young Artists King’s Cross launches six courses in music, drama and production arts for 5-18-year-olds
Guildhall Young Artists is Guildhall School’s network of centres across the country, providing inspiring performing arts training for children and young people. Guildhall Young Artists King’s Cross will open on 24 September and will offer six courses in music, drama and production arts for all 5-18-year-olds. Based at Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School and taking place on Saturdays during term-time, young musicians, singers, actors, designers and stage managers can develop their creativity and access high quality training with top practitioners and industry professionals, across a variety of styles and genres. With no auditions or previous experience necessary, Guildhall Young Artists King’s Cross is a great way to access Guildhall School’s world-class performing and production arts training, make friends and have lots of fun. Performance opportunities will be at the heart of Guildhall Young Artists King’s Cross, with music, drama and production arts students coming together to create innovative performances. These will be staged at the centre and other arts venues. Visits from Guildhall School students and tutors will give students the opportunity to further develop their skills.
The five courses available from 24 September are:
Creativity Starts Here for ages 5–7
This beginner’s course will introduce children to the joy of music making and the arts through weekly classes consisting of games, exercises, and plenty of creativity.
Music Discovery Course for ages 7–11
This beginner’s music course will introduce children to a range of musical styles and genres, through weekly classes in spoken word, pop, jazz and classical. Group lessons will be given in string, wind, brass and percussion instruments, as well as group vocal classes.
Music Course for ages 11–18
This hands-on music course will offer a full programme of music making and creativity. Students will be given an individually tailored morning of activities depending on their interests and will have the opportunity to play in three ensembles, covering multiple genres and styles at an appropriate level.
Drama Discovery Course for ages 7–11
This beginner’s drama course will introduce children to the foundations of acting, through weekly classes that will build confidence and social skills, support self-expression and unleash creativity.
Drama Course for ages 11–18
This practical drama course will develop and teach acting skills through fun weekly classes. All students will take part in at least three separate sessions each week and learn more about their voice, movement and physical skills, such as understanding body language and non-verbal communication.

Production Arts Course for ages 14–18
This production arts course is perfect for those who have an interest in the design and production side of theatre, film and TV or live events.
The Production Arts Course will start later on in the year, when the full course programme will be confirmed. Applicants should complete the online application form before 12 September and a 20% discount will be applied to the first term’s fees for this course at a later date.
A number of bursaries will be available for students enrolled on music, drama or production arts classes as part of Guildhall’s commitment to access and participation. These are means-tested and will enable students to have some or all of their class fees paid for.
This is the third centre to be added to the Guildhall Young Artists portfolio in London, which includes Centre for Young Musicians in Waterloo and Junior Guildhall. Other centres are based in Taunton, Saffron Walden and Norwich, as well as an online centre for those that prefer to study remotely. Students attending any Guildhall Young Artists centre will become a Guildhall Young Artists member and will be able to benefit from exclusive opportunities, performances and workshops, including competitions, invites to concerts, gigs and performances from students at Guildhall School. By becoming a part of a national network, members will be able to connect and collaborate with like-minded individuals across the country.
