GZMD Govt Degree College organises Mega Plantation Drive

 

REASI : To mark Kargil Vijay Diwas, the NSS Unit of Government General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College, Reasi, in collaboration with J&K Forest Department, on Wednesday organised a mega-plantation drive – themed Meri Mati Mera Desh.

During the day-long Plantation drive about 40 NSS volunteers of the college planted more than 100 saplings of different origins in different places. A total of 25 saplings were planted in the adopted village Seela at Govt. Primary School, Khaletar & Guru Nabha Dass Ji Mandir.

Ravi Kumar, Sarpanch of Seela Panchayat was the chief guest who planted the first tree of the day to kick-start the drive.

He appreciated the efforts made by the NSS volunteers & NSS Programme Officer, Prof. Ajay Kumar for making the plantation drive successful. He further added that the volunteers were on the job since the beginning of this month and their efforts are praiseworthy. Others who planted saplings during the day along with NSS volunteers included Vijay Kumar, Headmaster, GPS Khaletar (Seela), Dr. Rajinder Kumar, Assistant Professor, Sehdev Bhagat, Anita Devi, Panch ward No. 2 (Seela). A tree was also gifted to the Chief Guest and refreshment was provided to the volunteers by the School Administration.

Further, more than 75 saplings were planted on the College Campus (Government General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College) where Block Forest Officer, Reasi Arvind Bargotra delivered a talk about the step-by-step process of tree plantation. Further, he along with some other officials of the forest department and NSS volunteers planted trees.

Assistant Professor Dr. Amit Bali and Assistant Professor Dr. Surita Sharma also planted trees. Speaking on the occasion, NSS Programme Officer Prof. Ajay Kumar said that the volunteers were really excited from day one about the plantation drive and participated in the whole process with great zeal and enthusiasm. Their work, skills and efforts are really appreciable. Further, he thanked the Forest Department for their collaboration and for providing important saplings on time.
