Harper Adams University appoints new Chief Global Impact Officer
Ian Rowley has been appointed as the first Chief Global Impact Officer at Harper Adams University.
The CGIO is tasked with leading a cross-university effort to demonstrate and communicate the potential of everything Harper Adams does, in ways that are accessible and useful to future generations of leaders, industry partners and policy makers.
Ian will work to ensure the university can deliver on institutional ambitions and priorities, at a local, national and increasingly global level, on:
Institutional relationships and partnerships
Student recruitment at all levels
Communications, marketing and story telling
Public affairs, policy and influence
Civic relationships and community partnerships
Developing campus and community partnerships
Harper Adams Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ken Sloan, said: “I am delighted that Ian has accepted the position as the inaugural Chief Global Impact Officer at Harper Adams University. Ian was appointed from a competitive pool of applicants and brings significant, relevant experience which will be of immense value at this time.
“The timing of Ian’s appointment is critical. As we work to diversify our income streams, and work to broaden the community of those who can benefit from a Harper Adams education, we need to develop and amplify the stories we tell of the University’s purpose to encourage more people to study here and partner with us. This is particularly important for our employer partners who need access to outstanding talent for their organisations to succeed and thrive. As we further build our national and international research reputation, the stories of our impact need to engage and inspire our students, our employees, our alumni and our partners.
“We may be a smaller, specialist institution but our agenda in identifying ways to feed the growing population and sustain the planet’s environment is a global agenda and we must have the confidence to position our community and our impact as being of local, national and global significance. Ian brings a wealth of experience in building organisational brand, reputation and impact which will support us well as we build and tell the next chapter of the Harper Adams University story.”
On accepting the role of Chief Global Impact Officer, Ian Rowley said: “It is a privilege to be the University’s first Chief Global Impact Officer. I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Harper Adams family in recent months.
“The University is a special and very important institution, with talented employees and students who are passionate about making a difference to the industries we serve. I look forward to building on Harper Adams’ many strengths and successes to amplify and extend the impact we make, both in the UK and globally.
“Through the activation of our new Strategy, and with the World facing unprecedented challenges in sustainable food production and supply, we have an historic opportunity to strengthen the University’s reputation and achieve a step change in our communications, public affairs and global engagement activities.”
Barbara Bray, Harper Adams University Governor and appointment panel member, added: “I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Ian on his appointment. It was a huge pleasure to take part in the selection process, and I was impressed to see the high standard of candidates who applied. Ian’s breadth of experience stood out, and this appointment is testament to his dedication and expertise in this area. I look forward to seeing the positive impact that he will have on the future of Harper Adams.”
