Harper Adams University: Leading agricultural institutions to combine at UK Dairy Day 2022
The event, run by Holstein UK based in Telford, is set to take place next week at the town’s International Centre – and Harper Adams’ lead for Shows and Events Sarah Swinnerton is looking forward to meeting attendees to talk to them about the difference a qualification from the University can make.
She said: “With the return of so many events this summer after the pandemic, it has certainly been a packed year – but events like UK Dairy Day, on home turf, really are something special.
“We’ve been regulars at the event for quite some time – so working alongside the UK Dairy Day team to sponsor this year’s Sharing Knowledge Zone is a perfect fit for us.”
The zone features a range of exhibitors, from DEFRA and the Department for International Trade to the British Grassland Society, CIEL – the Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock, and the British Cattle Breeders Club.
It will host seminars and industry panels throughout the day, covering both dairy herds and farm business.
A panel on Sustainable Employment, set to take place at 1.30pm, will feature both Harper Adams alumnus and Director of Cultura Connect Hugh Pocock and Harper Adams Agricultural Placement Manager Terry Pickthall.
A range of higher and further educational institutions will also be exhibiting in the Zone – including, of course, Harper Adams itself, which will have both a stand in the Zone and another in hall one, highlighting its research and industry partnerships.
Sarah added: “We’re really looking forward to the day – it’s one which our academics, particularly those involved with our teaching and research on dairy and livestock, truly enjoy.
“It’s also a great chance to both meet our alumni and our industry contacts, and our stand in hall one will be where people can find out more about our postgraduate and research work – such as the Alltech IFM Laboratory based at Harper Adams, which opened in 2020.”
The opening of the Laboratory – which was the seventh of its kind globally – demonstrates the strength of the long-running alliance between Alltech and Harper Adams.
Harper Adams Professor of Animal Science Liam Sinclair, speaking at the time, said: “Having the Alltech IFM lab at Harper Adams allows us to undertake more fundamental studies in terms of ruminant nutrition and ruminant metabolism so that we can optimise rumen fermentation and, therefore, improve animal health, performance and longevity.”
UK Dairy Day runs from 8am to 5.30pm at the International Centre, Telford, on Wednesday, September 14.
