Harvesting of Tomatoes begins at Krishi Bhawan Jammu
JAMMU : Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Jammu, K. K. Sharma today inaugurated the first picking of Tomatoes being grown under protected conditions here at Krishi Bhawan Talab Tillo.
Tomatoes besides, Coloured Bellpepers, Seedless Cucumbers have been grown under Naturally Ventilated Polygreen House (NVPGH) structure using advanced vegetable cultivation practices for demonstration and popularization among the farmers.
Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs), A.S.Reen, Joint Director Agriculture (Farms/SLUB), Rajinder Kumar Sharma, Joint Director (Apiculture & Mushrooms), Iqbal Singh, Joint Director Agriculture (Extension), Subash Sharma, Agronomist (Vegetable Improvement Scheme), J. C. Raina, Assistant Botanist, Mrs. Ambika Rani, Floriculture Development Assistant, Rohit Singh Balloria, Research Assistant, Manmohan Singh, Farm Manager JPAE Farm, Arun Jaral besides others were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director Agriculture stressed upon the officers to promote the production of exotic and high value vegetables under protected and controlled conditions to get round the year production with high returns.
Agronomist (Vegetables), J. C. Raina apprised the visiting officers regarding Tomato Abhilash and other exotic vegetables grown by the Vegetable Improvement Scheme. It was informed that the Tomato Abhilash is a prolific fruit bearer with attractive red cloured fruits with good shelf life.
Later, Director Agriculture along with other senior officers also inspected the Gladiolus, Zucchini, Medicinal & aromatic plants, Flower Seedlings and Flower Seed Crops besides other interventions demonstrated under the Vegetable Improvement Scheme.
