Health awareness programme held at BSJ Hall

ALIGARH : Begum Sultan Jahan (BSJ) Hall, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the Hospital Infection Society India (HISI), Aligarh Chapter, under the aegis of the American Society for Microbiology, AMU Women’s Club and the Department of Community Medicine, J.N. Medical College, organized a health awareness programme for the resident members of the hall.

In her address, the chief guest, Dr. Sumbul, encouraged students to focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle rather than worrying excessively about health issues. She advised against self-diagnosis through online searches and urged them to go for professional medical consultations when needed.

Prof. Fatima Khan, Department of Microbiology, JNMC, spoke on “Cancers in Women: Prevention and Screening” and discussed common cancers in women, with a focus on breast and cervical cancer.

Dr. Rabia Riaz, Department of Surgery, AKTC, delivered a talk on “Self-screening for breast carcinoma” and provided in-depth knowledge on breast cancer and demonstrated Self Breast Examination techniques using a mannequin.

Prioritising menstrual hygiene in daily life, Dr. Karthika P, Senior Resident, Community Medicine, JNMC, spoke on the importance of menstrual hygiene and sustainable menstruation, while Dr. Sheeba Nuzhat Khan, Department of Kulliyat, AKTC, in her lecture on “Nutritional Disorders in Young Women” highlighted common nutritional disorders, including micronutrient deficiencies and eating disorders.

Earlier, Prof Saira Mehnaz, Provost of the hall, welcomed the guest speakers and introduced them to the audience.

Dr. Nazia Tabassum, Department of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology, extended a vote of thanks.
