Health workers receive training in DEIC-COE programme
Aligarh : Doctors and other staff of the District Early Intervention Centre of Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) from across various states are receiving hands-on-training to improve the comprehensive care and the overall quality of life of children in the five-day training programme which began on November 28 at the District Early Intervention Centre and Centre of Excellence (DEIC-COE), Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Attending the inaugural function as the Chief Guest, AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Gulrez said that teams of well-trained health workers will ensure that the children receive the best of medical care and therapeutic interventions to achieve necessary preventive, corrective and rehabilitative actions after early identification of deformities and risk factors.
Presiding over the programme through an online platform, Dr Sumita Ghosh (Additional Commissioner, In-charge, CH and Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram-RBSK) pointed out: “This training programme will provide the health workers with the expertise to understand the intrinsic principles and practices of early intervention which would translate into better rehabilitation services for the beneficiary children and also enable parents to achieve better management of children”.
Prof M U Rabbani (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) pressed the need for the early identification of defects, diseases, deficiencies, developmental delays and disabilities among children to improve the quality of life.
“These kinds of programmes are necessary to have a trained staff to make parents aware of the diseases that their children may contract, right from start of birth”, stressed Prof Rakesh Bhargava (Principal, JNMC).
Dr Neeraj Tyagi (Chief Medical Officer, Aligarh) talked about the various Government schemes and programmes for early detection of diseases among children.
“If parents notice any signs such as a child not able to eat or breastfeed, vomiting regularly, sudden weight loss, convulsion, lethargy and fever, they should take immediate action and approach the nearest health centre”, said Prof Tabassum Shahab (Former Convener, DEIC-COE, JNMC).
Dr Uzma Firdaus, Nodal Officer (DEIC-COE) delivered the welcome address.
Dr Madhumati Bose (Early Intervention and Developmentally Supportive Care Specialist, AIIMS, New Delhi), Dr Savita Sapra (Consultant Clinical Psychologist, AIIMS, New Delhi), Dr Swati Seth (Child Development Centre, Yatharth Hospital Noida), Kamla Singh (Consultant Occupational Therapist, Holy Family Hospital, New Delhi), Puja Sarbajna (Optometrist, Vision and Behaviour Therapist, ABC Centre, Narayana Nethralaya) and Dr Arunraj (Audiologist, All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysuru) are the masters trainers of the programme.
