Heriot-Watt University: Heriot-Watt in the top 200 worldwide in five subjects in 2022 QS Subject Rankings
Heriot-Watt ranked in 16 subjects and three subject groups and are in the top 200 worldwide for five subjects: Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject features 1,300 institutions and uses five data sources to assess each University’s standing: a survey of academics, a survey of employers, research impact (based on research citations per paper), the ‘H-index’, which measures the productivity of published works, and international research network – a new indicator for this year’s rankings, which looks at research conducted with global partners.
Professor Steve McLaughlin, Deputy Principal of Research and Impact, said: “Our performance in this year’s QS World University Subject Rankings has been due to our commitment to deliver the best and diverse learning and teaching experience for our students and by developing links with international business and enterprise our global research continues to go from strength-to-strength, focussing on major global challenges.”
In addition, we are ranked in the top 20 in the world for the following subjects: Citations per paper: 18th in world for Linguistics; Academic Reputation: 15th in world for Petroleum Engineering and Employer Reputation: 8th in world for Petroleum Engineering
Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard A. Williams, said the achievement is testament to the resilience and determination of everyone at the University over a difficult few years. He adds: “Our latest position in the 2022 QS World University Subject Rankings reflect the marked growth in the influence and impact of our specialist research, our unique global education model and our effective partnership working with employers and industry. Our diverse outlook and unique global footprint are, and continue to be, a source of tremendous strength for this University.”
Heriot-Watt was also ranked in the UK top 10 in the measures for the following subjects:
2 subjects for Citations H-Index: 6th in UK for Petroleum Engineering, 10th for Mathematics
1 subject for Citations per paper: 3rd in UK for Linguistics
1 subject for Academic Reputation: 3rd in UK for Petroleum Engineering
3 subjects for Employer Reputation: 1st in UK for Petroleum Engineering, 4th for Civil & Structural Engineering, and 10th for Electrical & Electronic Engineering
In 2021 Heriot-Watt University was joint 270th worldwide across 51 subjects, 31st in the UK, 5th in Scotland and 114th in Europe in the QS World University Ranking.
