Himachal Pradesh Governor awards merit scholarships to 150 students of State

Shimla: Governor  Acharya Devvrat conferred SJVN Silver Jubilee Merit Scholarship Awards upon 150 meritorious students of Himachal Pradesh during the award distribution ceremony organised by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Foundation and HIMCON at Rajbhawan,  today. He handed over a certificate and cheque of Rs 24000 to those students who qualified for the scholarships. This amount would be given to them every year till they complete their degree or diploma course.
Speaking on the occasion,  Acharya Devvrat appreciated the initiative of SJVN to start “Pt. Deen Dayal Upadyaye Water Conservation Scheme” in the project areas of the State and said that he had also started the campaign for conservation of water. He said that such initiatives would be helpful in meeting water  demand particularly in the urban areas besides rejuvenating the  traditional water resources in the rural areas.
He said that 65 percent of the country’s population comprised of youth who had immense potential and talent and added that youth were the real wealth of the Nation as they were the future of the country. He said that it was extremely essential to channelise this energy towards constructive purposes which if not properly harnessed and guided could stray away towards destructive activities which would prove harmful for the society. He said that youth should be brought into mainstream and motivated to participate in nation building activities and associated with social campaigns for bringing in awareness in the society.
He urged the youth to work with prudence and applying the mind in decision making instead of emotions. He further said that parents and teachers were the real beneficial for the students and added that “good teacher sacrifices his life to safeguard and brighten the future of his students”. It was the responsibility of every teacher to inculcate the high values to the future generation, he added.
The Governor said that developing the spirit of patriotism was important so that young generation develop the spirit of nationalism, pride for the glorious cultural heritage of the country which was known across the world for its rich civilization.  He said that in the absence of this spirit, the country would not progress.  He urged the youth to gain knowledge about our rich values, culture and traditions and inculcate in themselves pride for the country.
Acharya Devvrat called upon the young generation to stay away from drugs in order to progress in life. He encouraged the students to excel in their lives and develop a competitive spirit to be able to make a mark at national and international level in order to bring fame to the state and country.
Acharya Devvrat expressed gratitude towards the SJVN for their contribution towards upliftment of the society through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in the State.
Chairman of Committee of Directors on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Shri Ganesh Dutt said that efforts were being made to discharge the social responsibility by implementing various initiatives in the education and health sectors from time to time. He also informed about the activities of the SJVN Foundation and its contribution towards hydro-power sector. He said that as per the direction of the Governor, the CSR of SJVN had initiated campaign against drug abuse and cow protection and organic farming were included in the agenda. He congratulated the awardee students on the occasion and urged the awardee youth to work hard in life to achieve success.
 Earlier, Director Personnel Shri Nandlal Sharma welcomed and honoured the Governor on the occasion and explained various aspects of the scholarship scheme. He said that the scheme had been started in the year 2012-13 by providing scholarship to 140 students. This year 250 students have been included in the scheme which included 150 students from Himachal Pradesh. He said that the students from HPBSE, CBSE and ICSE boards have been selected and this year students from below poverty line and handicapped were also included in the scheme. He said that besides exploiting hydro power, SJVN rendering social responsibility in health, education, infrastructural development and other sectors.
