HKU Dentistry Secures 3rd Place Globally in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has once again been recognized for its academic excellence by achieving the prestigious 3rd place in QS World University Rankings by Subject in 2024. The latest ranking reaffirms HKU’s position as one of the leading institutions for Dentistry in the world. Remarkably, HKU Dentistry has consistently maintained a top three global ranking in eight out of the past ten years (2015 – 2024).
Professor Thomas Flemmig, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, expressed his delight at the outstanding performance and extended his gratitude to the dedicated faculty members. “Maintaining a top-three position for 8 out of 10 years is a significant accomplishment, which no other dental institution in the world has achieved. It reflects our strong commitment to delivering excellence in teaching, conducting innovative and cutting-edge research, and providing comprehensive high-quality oral healthcare. I am immensely grateful to our colleagues, students, and alumni for their unwavering dedication to nurturing young dental professionals and pushing the boundaries of oral sciences on a global scale.”
With its Institute for Advanced Dentistry, the Faculty is improving access to high-quality oral healthcare. The Institute for Advanced Dentistry is dedicated to educating PhD students and specialists in various dental disciplines, and provides care for patients with severe or complex oral conditions. With the generous donations from various sectors, the Institute has been able to offer advanced dental services to selected underserved populations suffering from oral cancer, severe gum disease and early childhood caries.
With the new developments at HKU and exciting opportunities for further growth, Professor Flemmig looks forward to seeing more great things from HKU Dentistry in the future.
“The Faculty’s success is also attributed to our robust academic community, with a flourishing number of high-calibre research students. Currently we have more than half the number of PhD students enrolled in Oral Sciences in comparison to all US dental schools combined. HKU Dentistry possesses boundless potential for further growth. With our collective efforts, we will continue to lead the way in dental education and research to address clinical problems, as well as shaping the future of dental sciences,” added Professor Flemmig.
HKU Dentistry’s excellent achievement in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 is not only a testament of its academic excellence but also solidifies its position as a reputable global leader in the dentistry profession.
