HKU offers FinTech Scholarship for Undergraduates to nurture top talents and accelerate the growth of the financial services industry

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) launched the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Financial Technology (BASc (FinTech)) programme in September 2019 in order to prepare students to become world-class FinTech professionals. Hosted by the Department of Computer Science at the Faculty of Engineering, and supported by the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Law, this multidisciplinary degree programme in FinTech is the only one of its kind in Asia to offer a balanced curriculum covering subjects in computing, data science, finance, policies and regulations.

Supported by the Standard Chartered Hong Kong 150th Anniversary Community Foundation (SCF), a total of six “HKU-SCF FinTech Scholarships” will be offered to students of (BASc (FinTech)) programme starting from 2020-21 for five consecutive academic years. Each scholar will be awarded an entrance scholarship of HK$50,000. Additional scholarships will be extended to existing students based on academic merit.

“The scholarships will help HKU draw top local students to take up this undergraduate programme in FinTech, which focuses on the enhancement of innovative skills and the application of technological knowledge in this dynamic field,” said Professor TW Lam, Head of the Department of Computer Science. “These young talents will bring vitality to the talent pool in the financial services industry and contribute significantly to the entire FinTech ecosystem in Hong Kong,” he added.
