Horticulture Deptt Jammu hosts Farmers’ awareness camp at village Indripattan

Jammu : A Farmers’ Awareness Camp was today held under the chairmanship of Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu S.Sarabjit Singh, here at village Indripattan of tehsil Pargwal.

A large number of farmers participated. To promote Horticulture in the areas 783 fruit plants were distributed among the farmers at 90% subsidy under Backyard Horticulture Programme.

The CHO Jammu appealed to the farmers to keep close liaison with the field functionaries of the department to take maximum benefits available under various Departmental Schemes. He apprised them that the Backyard Horticulture Scheme promotes greenery in the surrounding, creating a pollution free atmosphere, besides helping in production of organic fruits for their consumption.

SDM Khour, Anil Thakur, as the chief guest, appealed to the participants to plant more and more fruit trees in their locality without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides so as to save the environment and improve our health. He also stressed upon the farmers to adopt hi-tech methods of organic farming to produce organic fruits and vegetables as these will fetch them better market value and return.

DLSMS Pomology, Dr Sandeep Gupta made the farmers aware about the modern methods of fruit cultivation to increase their income.

While addressing the mammoth gathering of farmers Sarpanch and Naib- Sarpanch Sarwal thanked the department for organizing such a beneficial programme. They urged them to organize more such camps in future.
