Hypertension day observed

 

ALIGARH  : The World Hypertension Day, themed as “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer”, was observed by the Department of Community Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University through an awareness programme held at the Urban Health Post (UHP), Jamalpur.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Saira Mehnaz (Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine) said that World Hypertension Day is celebrated every year on May 17 to spread awareness among common people, especially among low to middle-income groups, to keep track of their blood pressure through accurate BP measuring methods and maintain it for sound health.

“Hypertension is a silent killer that rarely shows any symptoms. Increasing public awareness about hypertension is key to early detection and management,” said Dr Ali Jafar Abedi (In-charge, Urban Health Training Centre).

He delivered a health talk to create awareness regarding the prevention of hypertension, its symptoms, complications and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

A team of doctors including Dr Ragul JS, Dr Sami, Dr Bhavani and Dr Aatika examined and screened more than 50 patients at the camp.

Dr Ragul extended the vote of thanks, urging the participants to share information with medical consultants regarding the cases of hypertension in their family and maintain BP by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
