ICAR-CIFA organised Orientation cum training programme on scientific fish farming for tribal farmers of Narayanpur, Chhatisgarh
Raipur: ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Ramkrishna Mission, Narayanpur organised an Orientation cum training programme on scientific fish farming for tribal farmers of Narayanpur, Chhatisgarh at Ramkrishna Mission, Narayanpur, Chhatisgarh during 8-9 November, 2024. The programme was attended by Director, ICAR-CIFA, Dr P. K. Sahoo and a team of experts from ICAR-CIFA including Dr. P.Routray, Dr. K.C. Das and Dr. N.K. Barik.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr P. K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA Bhubaneswar Odisha in presence of Swamy Byaptanandaji, Secretary, Ramkrishna Mission, Narayanpur. Director ICAR-CIFA emphasized the importance of training, awareness and inputs distribution for livelihood improvement of this region. He suggested the importance of hatchery for demonstration and production of fish seed for this region.
Smamy Byaptanandaji, Head of Ramakrishna Mission, Narayanpur, explained all participants about importance of integrated farming including fish farming in this region for development. During the programme, Dr. P. Routray, Principal Scientist, APED, ICAR-CIFA, covered topics on water quality, pond management, seed production, and fish breeding etc. Dr. K.C. Das, Coordinator, STC, and Principal Scientist, FNPD, ICAR-CIFA, focused on nutrition, feeding, and feeding management specific to Chhattisgarh. Dr N. K. Barik Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFA discussed about the scope of entrepreneurship opportunity for tribal farmers of this region.
About 130 tribal fish farmers from Bastar division of Narayanpur, Chhatisgarh attended the programme. Different Inputs like fish seed, manure, feed/feed ingredients and fishing nets were distributed to farmers from STC/TSP sub plan project of ICAR-CIFA in addition to training cum orientation programme. Alongside technical training, farmers were also exposed to the spiritual teachings of the Ramkrishna Mission, adding a holistic dimension to the event.
