Jammu: An awareness Camp on hazards of Drug Abuse and its Prevention was today organised by ICDS Project R.S. Pura in collaboration with J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addicts).
At the camp frontline workers were imparted training as they have a wider reach being gross root level functionaries who can disseminate information effectively.
The objective of this camp was to generate awareness among the general masses on ill effects of drug abuse and information regarding Outreach and Drop-In centre run under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India. The JKSPYM in its recent survey found that drug abuse is on rise in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir and needs to be nipped in the bud.
The main activities of the program were to identify the drug users, register them under the NGOs outreach and Drop-in centre program. Providing counseling to them and refer them to the need-based services. The team apprised that ODIC has been established in Talab Tillo area where drug users from all strata can register themselves and can get benefitted from the program.
Handouts having information on ill effects of drug use, services offered by ODIC etc. printed in the English, Hindi and Urdu were also distributed among the front line Workers, Supervisors and others present on the occasion.
The programme was attended by CDPO, Supervisors, AWWs and some local people. At the conclusion of the program, refreshment was served amongst all present on the occasion.
