IEEE RAS and IEEE CS inaugural ceremony

 

Aligarh : Faculty members and subject experts engaged in intriguing discussions on emerging trends in robotics and automation in the inaugural ceremony of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) and IEEE Computer Society (CS) at the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Releasing ROBOverse, a student newsletter comprising technical articles of interest to the robotics and automation community; Prof Mohammad Altamush Siddiqui (Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology) remarked: “I am sure that this newsletter will present new scientific results to students through a focus on working systems and emphasising creative solutions to real-world problems”.

He also spoke on the significance of having student chapters of IEEE and RAS and Computer societies.

Prof M M Sufyan Beg (Principal, ZHCET) discussed various types of robots, pros and cons of using them, and how they will shape the future.

He outlined some of the skills students need to get started with robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning and automation.

“Computers and robotics are intertwined with each other and research and development in this field is the need of the hour”, stressed Prof Sufyan.

Prof S Imtiaz Hasnain (Chairman, Innovation Council and University Incubation Centre) pointed out that the Innovation Council and Incubation Centre of the university aims to work for the development of all student initiatives.

“We extend all our support to create a common learning space for students with an interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning and look forward to engaging professionals from the industry and researchers from well-known institutes with AMU students”, he added.

Prof Ekram Khan (Chairman, Department of Electronics Engineering) spoke about the need for interdisciplinary collaborations.

Prof Saleem Anwar Khan (IEEE-RAS Faculty Advisor) gave a brief about the scheduled tasks to be undertaken by the RAS Society.

Prof Mohd Rihan (Vice-Chair, IEEE UP Section) apprised about the functioning of IEEE.

Dr Mohd Wajid (IEEE-CS Student Branch Chapter Advisor) gave an overview of the IEEE Computer Society.

Dr Naushad Alam (IEEE-RAS Student Branch Chapter Advisor) delivered the welcome address.

Zahid Hussain (President, RAS Student Chapter) and Adeeba Khan (Vice-Chairperson, CS Student Chapter) spoke on the future plans of the RAS and CS student chapters in the university.

Abbas Syed Nooruddin (Vice-Chairperson, IEEE ZHCET and Team Advisor to RAS, ZHCET) extended the vote of thanks.

Over 100 students and faculty members attended the inaugural function.
