IET India Scholarship Award gets record registrations within a month of opening

7,800 engineering students have registered so far to win scholarships worth Rs 500,000

Bangalore– The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) opened registrations for the fifth edition of its prestigious India Scholarship Award, with a combined prize of Rs. 500,000 in June 2021. The awards, which is open to students of all AICTE, UGC approved and National institutes has already attracted registrations from over 7,800 engineering students from across India. The programme aims to reward and celebrate individual excellence and innovation among undergraduate engineering students in India and is on a mission to find future engineering leaders. Applications to this year’s award will close on August 15, 2021.
IET India Scholarship Award is being re launched this year in a digital format to coincide with the IET’s 150th anniversary. The past four editions of the IET India Scholarship Awards received excellent response from the engineering community with over 20,000 entries from students across India for 2013 – 2016. The award evaluates participants across rigorous parameters that include academic performance, extracurricular activities, range of outreach activities and their ability to come up with engineering solutions to solve problems impacting society. In the first level, students are shortlisted based on their academic performance as well as extracurricular activities. They then progress to an online test on STEM subjects. Students that clear a cut off score are then invited to present their technological solution to a pertinent societal challenge that impacts their region in the regional rounds. Winners of the region round finally battle it out in the national finals to win the title.

Speaking about the reception for this year’s scholarship awards, Shekhar Sanyal, Country Head and Director, IET India said, “It is heartening to see the reception that scholarship awards have had, in its come-back edition. To the IET, this is a great indicator of the desire that young engineers have to compete at a national level and put their knowledge and skills to test as well as to get mentored and coached along that journey. The winners of our previous editions of scholarship awards are now doing inspiring work with some of the best engineering organisations globally and I can’t wait for more to join that league.”

Anitha Kaveri, who heads the Scholarship programme said, “We are thrilled that 7,800 students from 32 states and UTs have already applied, making this a truly national initiative. Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh are states from where we have most number of applications, followed by Andhra Pradesh. Through our network of academic connects, we are working hard to spread the word and encourage more students to apply. We have also designed a process- from application to disbursal of scholarships that is fully digital to facilitate student participation in these difficult times.”

The programme is advised and led by a highly empowered and respected advisory board, comprising of academicians and corporate professionals of national repute who help build a strong framework for IET India Scholarship Awards.
