IGNCA and NGMA to Host Painting Exhibition on 350th Anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Coronation
New Delhi: On the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the coronation of the great Indian hero Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) and the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) have organized an exhibition titled ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.’ The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Mr. Govind Mohan (IAS), on 6th June. Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of IGNCA Dr. Sanjeev Kishor Gautam, Director General of NGMA, will also be present at the event. This exhibition will run until 21st June at NGMA (Jaipur House, India Gate Hexagon).
The concept of this painting exhibition, created by Shrikant Chougule and his son Gautam Chougule, is inspired by the vision of Shri Deepak Gore. He has curated and directed this exhibition. Shri Deepak Gore received guidance from Padma Vibhushan Shri Babasaheb Purandare in this significant endeavour. Additionally, the support of the artist and architect Jahangir Wazifdar and his son Firoz Wazifdar was also instrumental.
The exhibition showcases the exemplary military, commercial, cultural, naval, social, and administrative policies of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj through 115 paintings. It includes portraits of his contemporaries and adversaries. The artists have attempted to narrate the glorious history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj through painting. The aim of curating this exhibition is to inspire children, youth, entrepreneurs, administrators, and leaders.
