 Meerut: The Media Centre of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts held a screening of the National Award-winning film ‘Looking for Challan’ at IIMT University, Meerut. Alongside this cinematic experience, attendees also had the opportunity to explore a unique exhibition featuring posters from a variety of films, both old and new, that highlighted strong female characters. This exhibition served as a celebration of the significant contributions made by women to the world of cinema.

Uttar Pradesh Information Commissioner Rajendra Singh graced the event as the chief guest. He inaugurated the exhibition with great enthusiasm. In his discourse, he emphasized the importance of conducting such programs to foster art and culture. In line with this sentiment, he highlighted the ongoing excellence of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA)  as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture. Furthermore, he emphasized that such initiatives offer a unique opportunity for individuals to explore the diverse cultures of various states while remaining in their own locale.

Shri Anurag Punetha, Media Controller, IGNCA, provided insights into the award-winning film, ‘Looking for Challan,’ which won the National Award for Best Investigative Film. This film is produced by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts and directed by Sh. Bappa Ray, delves into the forest culture and heritage of Kerala.  He also elaborated on the ongoing initiatives undertaken by the centre. It also derives its message from the untold stories of the Cholanaikkan community. Deputy Controller Dr. Shruti Nagpal engaged directly with students, acquainting them with diverse facets of cinema and offering insights into films, including the award-winning one. The exhibition featured posters of both classic and contemporary Hindi films, specifically highlighting those where women play central and empowered roles. Film analyst Iqbal Rizvi, Dean Dr. Ravindra Pratap Rana, department head Vishal Sharma, Professor Dr. Narendra Mishra, Professor Dr. Ashok Mishra, Dr. Vivek Singh, Sachin Goswami, Dr. Arkin Chawla, and Media Coordinator Sunil Sharma graced the event with their presence.
