IIIT Naya Raipur conducts Orientation Program for new M. Tech. and Ph. D. Batches

With the education system shifted to virtual medium of learning due to the global corona virus pandemic, leading education institute, IIIT Naya Raipur, also took the help of digital means and recently conducted its induction ceremony online to welcome the incoming batch of M. Tech. and Ph. D. students. The virtual event saw the attendance of over 27 newly admitted M. Tech. and Ph. D. students as well as the faculty and staff members of the institute.

The ceremony began with the lighting of lamp by dignitaries and recitation of Saraswati Vandana by students. Welcoming the new students to the family of IIIT Naya Raipur, Dr. Pradeep K Sinha, Vice Chancellor & Director, IIIT Naya Raipur, introduced them to the basic core values of the institute that makes it unique from various other technical institutions in India. He further added that IIIT-NR has world’s best faculty members, whose knowledge and experience will groom them to face the competitive world. He also highlighted the availability of various state-of-the-art laboratories in the institute that enable students to gain practical knowledge in their respective fields. He explained to the students about IIIT-NR Vision 1.0 (2015-2020), which focused on Education and developing the right Culture of the institute. He further added that Vision 2.0 for the next 5 years will focus on strengthening Research activities, for which the M. Tech. and Ph. D. students will play a vital role. He wished the students the very best for having the most enjoyable and fruitful period of their life in IIIT-NR.

Dr. Rajarshi Mahapatra, Dean (Academics), IIIT-NR, introduced the IIIT-NR faculty members to the students and also briefed them about the features of IIIT-NR Academics. He said that the academic structure of IIIT-NR has been developed in such a way that it entails learning through a range of methods including an assortment of lectures, workshops and comprehensive seminars. He told the students that the institute’s academic program is supported with research oriented labs, a rich library with about 5000 books, and 400 Mbps high-speed internet connectivity, among many other facilities to pursue their studies and research.

Dr. Punya P. Paltani, Dean (Research and Development), discussed about the 5-year vision statement of the institute. He shared how they are planning to transform the institute into “A Living Research Lab for Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development”, thereby focusing on the ICET applications for agriculture, forestry and rural development, mobility technology for rural population, communication technology for rural population, and energy systems with smart energy management technologies for rural areas.

The online classes of the new session for M. Tech. and Ph. D. students started from August 18, 2020.
