IIM Amritsar holds first MDP in face-to-face mode since the pandemic outbreak

Amritsar: On 26 July, IIM Amritsar inaugurated a three-week management development program (MDP) for executives from SJVN Ltd, a Mini Ratna company. The MDP has been designed to augment leadership and capability development of SJVN executive with inputs from external sources in addition to the ongoing in-house efforts. This Leadership Development Program (LDP) under the series of “Leadership for Changing Times” will help the professionals acquire strategic and functional level analytical skills to lead your organization. The diverse mix of participants will provide a platform to share varied best practices from their organizations and discuss contextual challenges that impact the overall industry. The participants will be exposed to different learning approaches that would affect their decision-making ability.
Inaugural Messages
Prof. Nagarajan Ramamoorthy, Director IIM Amritsar
Acknowledging how the pandemic has taken a toll on our lives, Prof. Ramamoorthy began his inaugural address. He, however, expressed delight over being able to hold the first MDP in face-to-face mode since the pandemic outbreak. Citing an example of General Electric, he informed the participants that leading organizations have continued to invest in their human capital and research and development even when companies face challenging times. Encouraging participants to gain from the investments in human capital at SJVN, Prof. Nagarajan Ramamoorthy motivated them to learn maximum from the current program. Director, IIM Amritsar shared that participants could genuinely unleash their potential by working on their core competencies and being open to learning and experiences.

Welcoming the participants, the Chairperson stressed the need for adapting to changing times. She said, “In addition to the challenges posed by COVID, the leaders need to be ready for the changes in organizations arising from industry 4.0 related developments. By adapting to these changes, organizations and individuals both can gain competitive advantage.” The Chairperson shared with the participants that organizations can tide over the change by instilling a culture of trust, the right mindset and skillsets in employees.

Speaking on behalf of SJVN, Ms Dogra thanked the management of SJVN for providing the participants with an opportunity to learn at a premier management school in India. Highlighting the benefits of the program for participants, she asked everyone to gain from this opportunity of learning that would enable them to be prepared for emerging challenges in the power sector. Later, she also presented a brief about the operational, under-construction and pre-construction projects of SJVN. She highlighted that despite the long gestation period of hydropower projects, these projects would remain the mainstay for the sector as they are a significant renewable energy source.
