IIM Bangalore hosts Analytics Fest Spectra 2020
Bengaluru: The Analytics Society, formed by the students of the two-year MBA programme at IIM Bangalore, hosted the second edition of Spectra, the annual analytics festival, on December 22. This one-day event is aimed to keep up with the changing dynamics of the real world by introducing a new way of logical thinking. Featuring a case competition, along with several on-spot events and social media engagements, Spectra combined analytics with fun and was able to generate huge interest amongst participants from within and outside IIM Bangalore.
Spectra’s flagship event ‘Bits & Bytes’, an analytics case competition, was organized in association with Affine Analytics, a Data Sciences and AI services provider. This nationwide case competition received participation from top business schools and engineering colleges from across the country. The competition provided great exposure to the students to working on real time problem statements, where the participants presented end-to-end solutions to the case statements and the same was judged by a panel from Affine Analytics.
The event also witnessed expert talks by the Affine team on ‘How is AI Transforming Analytics Today’, by Sourav Mazumdar, Head, AI Centre of Excellence, ‘Analytics Translation’, by Harsh Vardhan, Solutions Head, and also a discussion on ‘Women in AI’, by Saloni Singh, Head, Human Resources, Tanu Verma, Head, Marketing and Alliance, Shuchi Sureka and Tanvi Mandloi, both Analytics and Data Science Managers. They talked about their journeys and how the growing use of analytics in the industry has changed their career dynamics.
Spectra also hosted a series of on-the-spot events. ‘Character Match’, which was a psychometric-based personality trait matching booth, garnered huge interest with over 100 students turning up to find their compatibility with their friends and their personality traits. ‘Mock Stock’ was another event which tested application of analytics in the stock market, and the team with highest returns at the end claimed the bragging rights. Spectra was wrapped up with ‘Venn & Where’ – a fun-filled murder mystery contest, where teams put on their detective hats to investigate and solve the mystery with the help
