IIM Kashipur hosts Col. (Retd.) M Giridhar for MBA Series Webinar

Kashipur: Indian Institute of Management Kashipur hosted Col. (Retd.) M Giridhar for “MBA Series” – a webinar series that aims to impart knowledge to the students about management from a non-corporate lens.

 

Mr. Giridhar, an Armed Forces Veteran with three decades of service in the Indian Army, has vast experience in the training, planning, conducting, and post-operational analysis of a number of operations on the Line of Control (LoC), Line of Actual Control (LAC) as well as International Border (IB).

The session commenced with the guest highlighting military leadership military as an art of influencing and directing men and women in such a way as to obtain their willingness, obedience, confidence, and loyal cooperation in order to accomplish the assigned mission. He mentioned that armed forces are a way of life where they break and recast a person into a soldier. Talking about the brotherhood in the forces, he mentioned that is universally applicable within the entire fraternity of the armed forces.

He further emphasized the importance of a leader who inspires and influences people to accomplish an organizational goal. He said that qualities of good leadership include having a clear intent, creating shared understanding, building cohesive teams exercise discipline, prudent risk-taking, and trusting subordinates to make sound decisions.

Answering the question about his motivation to enter service he said that the credo of the armed forces is a motivation in itself. It’s about keeping the team before oneself and a rule is followed where the officer eats food at last after the jawans have their food. It is a culture of caring for the team before oneself and is followed by all which further acts as a motivation for everyone in the forces. When asked about the challenge to create an inclusive environment for all the people joining the unit coming from diverse backgrounds, he said that the roles and responsibilities are well distributed across the entire organization, and the training molds everyone into a uniform thought process and brings everyone together.
