IIM Kashipur Leads Uttarakhand’s Development, Hosts 4th CII State Council Meeting

  Kashipur : Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur hosted the 4th Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) State Council members meeting on 18th October 2024, bringing together prime industry personnel and academic leaders to explore collaborative efforts to promote growth and development across sectors in Uttarakhand and the Northern Region.

Prof. Somnath Chakrabarti, Director-in-Charge, IIM Kashipur underscored the significance of continuous interactions like these meetings in fostering mutual bonding and said “We are happy to welcome the industry and it’s delegates to the campus. We want to deepen and broaden the ties between industry and IIM Kashipur.”

CII-Uttarakhand is a state level industry body created with the formation of the state at the turn of the century within CII, a national body. Regular meetings are held on a rotational basis to discuss issues and challenges for the industry in Uttarakhand.

“IIM joining the CII fold and becoming active is a shot in the arm for industry in Uttarakhand which is poised for growth. Industry looks towards premier institutions to support and collaborate with industry in numerous ways” said Kanishk Jain, Chairman CII -Uttarakhand.

“IIM Kashipur offers various Management Development Programs for training of executives of Industry and also in-company programs which benefit the industry immensely” said Prof. Kunal Ganguly, Dean (Development), IIM Kashipur shared while emphasizing the importance of industry-academia collaboration and stating that the growth and prosperity of both are interdependent

“IIM Kashipur has been contributing to the state of Uttarakhand through an innovative experiential Learning Program with nearly 1000 students (over multiple batches) have contributed each close to 500 person-hours for the development of small organizations including MSMEs and their smaller value chain partners.” said Vaibhav Bhamoriya , faculty at IIM Kashipur and CII-UK state council member.

Director of IIM Kashipur highlighted numerous avenues for collaboration between the two institutions, focusing on mutual growth and development opportunities. Ms. Monika Dembla, Airport Director of Pantnagar Airport, engaging with the industry representatives, provided an update on the proposed expansion of the airport, addressing various queries raised by the industrialists. She outlined the ongoing developments and potential benefits of the expansion for improving regional connectivity.

CII members mulled upon the pressing need for the swift and efficient execution of the Pantnagar airport expansion, emphasizing its critical role in enhancing connectivity and boosting economic growth in this part of Uttarakhand.

Additionally, Ms. Nupur Raman, AVP and State Lead of Medha, enlightened the attendees on the opportunities and challenges in the skilling sector. She explained how industries could benefit from ongoing skilling initiatives, urging greater industry participation in these projects to bridge the skills gap and drive workforce development in the region.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with all participants pledging to work together toward constructing a vibrant and thriving Uttarakhand. Industry leaders, government representatives, and academia pledged to fostering closer partnerships, leveraging shared expertise, and driving sustainable development across key sectors. The collective goal is to unlock the full potential of the region, creating new opportunities for growth, innovation, and prosperity. This devotion marks the emergence of a stronger synergy between stakeholders, aimed at positioning Uttarakhand as a model for inclusive economic progress.
