IIM Kozhikode launches 11th Peekay Steel Calicut Half-Marathon
Kozhikode: IIM Kozhikode launched the 11th edition of Peekay Steel Calicut Half Marathon, which is now open for registration. The 11th edition of the Peekay Steel Calicut Half Marathon 2020 will be organised on the 23rd of February 2020 at 5:30 am in the Calicut Beach area.
The event launch ceremony was held on 14th January 2020 and was inaugurated by the Sub Collector, Ms. Priyanka G IAS. The Sub Collector launched the official Calicut Half Marathon website. Prof. Rudra Sensarma, the Dean (Research, Innovation & Internationalization) of IIM Kozhikode presented the first ticket to Sub Collector, Ms. Priyanka G IAS. The official race jersey was also launched by Mr. A K Rastogi, Chief Technology Officer, Peekay Steel Castings (P) Ltd and Mr. Prasantha Kumar, General Manager (HR), Peekay Steel Castings (P) Ltd bearing Peekay Steel as the title sponsor of the event.
This year the theme for the Marathon is ‘Pursuit of Happiness: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind’. Lt. Col. Cedric Thomas (Retd.), Consultant (Logistic Support & Administration) IIM Kozhikode, spoke at length about the importance of complementary nature of physical and mental health in the general well-being of the public at large along with the various lead-up events being conducted before the marathon. Mr A K Rastogi, Mr. Prasantha Kumar and Prof. Arqum Mateen, Chairperson, Student Affairs IIM Kozhikode also conveyed their wishes for the marathon.
The Sub Collector spoke about the importance of the theme and stated that “as a community, we can bring about paramount changes and lead better lives”. Calicut marathon committee strongly believes that incremental steps targeting different social issues can bring a phenomenal change when assimilated together. It is this belief that the students of IIM Kozhikode wish to encourage and promote through the marathon.
The marathon features three categories, a 21 km Half Marathon, a 10 km Mini-Marathon which are competitive races and a 3 km “Dream Run”, a non‐competitive run featuring people from all walks of life. The total prize money for the event is worth INR 4.7 lakhs. Over the past ten years, the marathon has been taking up unique causes every year, having focused on critical issues of unity, women empowerment, rights of differently-abled people, waste management, organ donation and healthy living.
