IIM Tiruchirappalli celebrates the 77th Independence Day

Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli celebrated India’s 77th Independence Day – a historic milestone in the history of India that marks India’s independence from the shackles of the British Empire. The celebration commenced with the customary unfurling of the tri-colour by the Director, Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, followed by the National Anthem.

In his address, the director welcomed the gathering and applauded the nation’s transformation. The director paid homage to the valiant freedom fighters- Mangal Pandey, Mahatma Gandhi, Rani Laxmi Bai, Chandrashekhar Azad, Sarojini Naidu, and many more who sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle. He reminisced about their sacrifices and struggles and incited a spirit of patriotism. He urged the gathering to educate oneself for a better cause, enabling oneself to contribute to the society in various forms. He expressed his deepest regards and gratitude to all the defence forces, protecting India on all frontiers. He requested the students to develop a profound sense of dignity for all forms of the labour force. He asked the students to find meaningful purpose in their current life roles, look for a reason within, and ask themselves whether they are fulfilling all the prerequisites required for the democracy that we are blessed with. After his speech, the director felicitated and presented souvenirs to the security personnel and the staff for their service and contribution.

The cultural events followed the director’s speech, representing the diversity of cultures and languages on the IIM Tiruchirappalli campus. The students, staff, faculty, and their family members sang patriotic songs, danced to cultural songs, and recited poetry as part of the cultural events.
