IIM Tiruchirappalli conducts the Valedictory Function for Emerging Project Leaders Programme (Arjuna Gurukul) for L&T
Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (IIM Trichy) conducted the Valedictory Function of the first batch of the Management Development Programme on “Emerging Project Leaders Programme” (Arjuna Gurukul) for L&T Constructions. This program was held from December 2019 to July 2021. The convocation was conducted online and was attended by the program participants, the program directors Professor Satish S. M., and Professor Karthik Dhandapani, Chairperson Executive Education and Consulting (EEC) Prof Prashant Gupta, and the L&T management.
The event began with the L&T anthem and the lighting of the lamp, followed by the welcome address by L&T HCI, Head Human Resources – Mr. Bino Mathew Jose. He began his address by welcoming all the dignitaries of the event, congratulating the program participants, and wishing them luck for their journies ahead. Mr. Jose continued his address by stressing how competitive the world has become and that there is now a need for young, enthusiastic, and risk-taking people to take charge of the corporate world and lead the way to development and success.
The convocation addresses were delivered by Mr. R. Anbalagan, Executive Vice President & Head – Heavy Civil SBG, L&T, and Mr. K.R.R. Chandran, Vice President & Head – Corporate Services, L&T. Mr. R. Anbalagan began his address by speaking about how infrastructure technology and project processes have grown leaps and bounds in the past years. He stressed that all competitors today are technologically adept. To be successful in the industry, one has to be equipped with the necessary technical and managerial skills, enabling one to make more impactful strategic decisions and solve industrial problems. He further stressed the importance of teams and how no individual can survive without the constant support of his/her team. Thanking the professors and management at IIM Trichy for providing this learning opportunity, he concluded his address by saying that the journey for the program participants does not end with the program. What matters is how you can apply the concepts learnt in the business world and practice them to your advantage.
Mr. K. R. R. Chandran gave his convocation address and started by saying how earlier job tasks were ‘do or die.’ However, there is no benefit if the employees don’t have the necessary skills to get the job done and think strategically. He then congratulated the program participants and said the onus of learning is on the learner. He added that self-learning is crucial and will always be a part of a person’s life. He then concluded his address by saying today’s generation is heavily tech-savvy, and they must take advantage of technological developments like AI and Big Data Analytics to help them make strategically sound decisions.
The online gathering was then shown a short video on Arjuna Gurukul containing its key features, learning outcomes, student testimonials, and accomplishments.
Program Director Prof. Sathish S. M. then talked about the program in general, stating how at the end of this course, the participants will be able to think strategically, see the bigger picture and make impactful decisions for their organizations in the long term. They will be able to orient their business toward customer value proposition and be aware of the effects of personal beliefs and biases in decision making.
Prof. Prashant Gupta, Chairperson EEC, further enlightened the gathering by praising and thanking the Program Directors for carefully molding and developing the contents of this program. He also thanked L&T for their contribution to making this program a success. Adding how the program faced its ups and down due to the pandemic, it was still a success. The participants will be alumni of IIM Trichy. Prof. Gupta also specially thanked the participant’s families for supporting them in this journey.
Merit award winners of the program were announced. Mr. Prajeesh Kumar AG secured the first rank, Mr. Vikash Kumar Jha secured the second rank, and Mr. Rupendhiran V secured the third rank in the merit list. Further, all the program certificates were distributed to the participants.
The event was concluded by the vote of thanks by Program Director Prof. Karthik Dhandapani, thanking the L&T management, program directors, IIM Trichy staff, and the L&T team for their support in making this program a success.
