IIM Tiruchirappalli hosts Rajasthan students in Yuva Sangam Phase-III

 

Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli takes immense pride in welcoming students from Rajasthan for Yuva Sangam Phase-III, an initiative organized by the Government of India under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat program. Yuva Sangam is designed to strengthen the bonds between states, fostering a sense of belonging and unity among the youth of India. Through cultural and educational tours, students will have the opportunity to explore and experience the rich diversity and heritage of our country. During their visits, the youth will have a multi-dimensional exposure to five broad areas – Paryatan (Tourism), Parampara (Traditions), Pragati (Development), Prodyogik (Technology), and Paraspar Sampark (People-to-people connect).

 

The journey for students commenced from Rajasthan on 23rd November 2023, and they arrived in Tiruchirappalli on 24th November 2023. The one-week program began with a grand Inauguration Ceremony at IIM Tiruchirappalli. The itinerary includes visits to iconic landmarks such as the Thanjavur Big Temple, APJ Memorial, Rameswaram Temple, Kallanai Dam, Rockfort Temple, Keezhadi Madurai, and Sittanavasal Cave. Participants will also embark on on-campus visits to NIFTEM Thanjavur, NIT, ICAR, IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIT Madras, and industrial visits to High Energy Projectile Factory (HEPF) and Ordnance Factory (OFT) Tiruchirappalli. Their agenda comprises diverse activities such as traditional sports, cultural programs, and interactions with the local villagers and administrators of Chinna Sooriyur and Mandaiyur villages surrounding the IIM Tiruchirappalli campus. Their journey will conclude with an interaction with the Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu, lunch at the Governor’s Bungalow, and a Valedictory Ceremony at the IIM Chennai campus. The itinerary is meticulously curated to give students a comprehensive and enriching experience.

 

The ceremony opened with the rendition of Tamil Thai Vaazhthu, celebrating the cultural diversity of Tamil Nadu. The Invocation and lighting of the lamp followed, symbolizing the commencement of the auspicious Yuva Sangam Phase – III and the illumination of knowledge.

 

Dr. Saravanan P, Dean (Corporate Relations & Faculty Affairs) & Chairman, Core Committee, Yuva Sangam Phase – III, IIM Tiruchirappalli, provided an insightful introduction to the significance of Yuva Sangam Phase – III, preparing participants for the enriching experiences ahead. Faculties from IIIT Kota and the Rajasthan delegation then offered warm self-introductions, sharing the diverse backgrounds of their state.

 

Prof. V Gopal, Director (Acting) & Dean (Academics), IIM Tiruchirappalli, introduced Tamil Nadu’s rich cultural heritage, giving the visiting students a deeper understanding of their host state. Emphasizing historical richness and modernity, he highlighted the cultural pillars of education, empowerment, and reforms shaping the state’s identity.

 

Ms. D. Nithya, IRS, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, delivered a memorable inaugural address. Ms. Nithya shared her insightful training experiences, emphasizing the unifying thread of humanity that connects diverse cultures worldwide. She highlighted the common cultural ground shared across the globe and delved into the richness of Tamil culture and literature, citing Tolkāppiyam and Thirukkural to underscore their profound significance. Ms. Nithya concluded her speech by emphasizing the collective responsibility to pass cultural legacies to the next generation. She encouraged participants to immerse themselves in the culture of Tamil Nadu and share their experiences with peers. The Chief Guest was honored with a memento as a token of appreciation for her valuable contributions.

 

Ms. Deepa M, a member of the Yuva Sangam Committee, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants and contributors through a vote of thanks. The ceremony concluded on a patriotic note with the singing of the National Anthem, symbolizing the unity and diversity that define the spirit of Yuva Sangam Phase – III.

 

As the nodal institution for Tamil Nadu, IIM Tiruchirappalli plays a pivotal role in promoting and executing the Yuva Sangam program within the state. This collaboration reaffirms the Institute’s commitment to holistic education and youth development. IIM Tiruchirappalli is excited to contribute to this national effort and is confident that the Yuva Sangam program will be a significant step towards fostering cultural unity and promoting the rich heritage of India. The event concluded with the National Anthem following the Vote of Thanks.
