IIM Trichy inaugurates the 2nd batch of Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM)

Trichy: Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli held the inauguration ceremony for the 2nd batch of the Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) on 4th December 2021. The event was graced by Mr. V S Ashok, Executive Vice President & CHRO, Blue Star Ltd., as the chief guest and Dr. Sanjay Salunkhe, founder of Jaro Education – the program partner. The event was attended by Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, Director IIM Trichy, Prof. Prashant Gupta, Chairman Executive Education, students of the incoming batch, alumni, staff, and faculty at IIM Trichy.

The event began with an invocation song and the lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address by the Programme Director, Prof. Upam Pushpak Makhecha. She thanked the guests and the attendees and welcomed the incoming batch to the IIM Trichy family. She also shed light on the objective and core values of the programme that aims at developing Human Resource (HR) professionals holistically by strengthening concepts and mastering clarity of HR arguments. She provided insights on the batch profile and gave a brief outline of the programme curriculum.

The audience was addressed by Prof. Prashant Gupta, who talked about the academic and professional rigor of the programme. He highlighted IIM Trichy’s journey in academic excellence as the 11th IIM and the various programmes conducted by the institute over its decade-long journey. He urged the students to make the best use of the academic resources and the seasoned faculty members of the institute during their course.

Dr. Sanjay Salunkhe, founder of Jaro Education addressed the audience and spoke about HR as a domain and its significance. He stressed upon HR managers having the best entrepreneurial potential due to their multi-domain exposure. He also emphasized the importance of hard work, peer learning, respecting subordinates, and giving back to the community as the core responsibilities of the HR industry.

Ms. Amita Rout, an alumnus from the first batch, spoke about her journey as part of the inaugural batch and the opportunities provided by the programme. She also shed light on the programme’s rigor and her learning experiences during the global pandemic. She thanked the staff and faculty at IIM Trichy and Jaro Education for their constant support. She ended her address with a quote by Max de Pree, “We cannot become what we want by remaining what we are.”

The Chief Guest, Mr. V S Ashok, delivered the inaugural address. He emphasized the motto of IIM Trichy – “Knowledge is Endless” and spoke about learning being a continuous process. He described the programme as one of the apt courses for corporate HR management. He also highlighted the increasing significance of HR as it plays a crucial role in work, workplace, and in workforce. He talked about the evolution of HR from paper to the digital VUCA world and provided useful insights by narrating examples from his journey.

Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, Director IIM Trichy, congratulated the students and their families and talked about his experiences in the field of HR. He spoke about the importance of finding a friend in oneself and simultaneously taking external help in the form of guides and mentors. He recited an Upanishad and related it to the rigor of the course and its contribution to the knowledge and productivity of students. He emphasized that the output is directly impacted by the hard work put in. He explained the three-stage journey of an HR strategy to strategic HR management as a concept. The first stage is being acquainted with HR functions across all domains. The second is understanding HR strategy and making recruiting process artful, and the third is the holistic conversion to Strategic HR Management. He gave insights on the mantra of what one must do as an HR manager to gain a seat at the table.

The Programme Director, Prof. Smita Prashant Chattopadhyay, proposed a vote of thanks, thanked all the attendees and concluded the ceremony by talking about HR becoming the strategic function in the corporate world.

The inauguration ceremony came to an end with a recitation of the National Anthem.
