IIMC to introduce 3 new Masters courses. Ink MoU with Ministry of AYUSH

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Mass Communication has planned to launch three new Masters’ degree programmes from the next academic year. The new courses will be in New Media, Health Communication and Communication Governance. This is as part of fulfilling requirement for IIMC to become a Deemed University under De Novo Category.

The road map to deemed university was reviewed by the Executive Council (EC)– the highest policy making body of IIMC – in its 141st meeting held in New Delhi today, under the chairmanship of I&B Secretary Amit Khare. The EC also reviewed the teaching and non-teaching staff requirement of the Institute over the medium term and long term. A Cadre Review and Restructuring Committee headed by Vikram Sahay, Joint Secretary, Ministry I&B has submitted its report recommending a suitable cadre structure for IIMC to function as a deemed university. It has projected faculty and other manpower requirement as per UGC norms.

IIMC to ink MoU with Ministry of AYUSH

The EC also approved the IIMC proposal for signing an MoU with the Ministry of AYUSH for undertaking collaborative communication projects. As part of the MoU, IIMC would offer IEC consultancy to the Ministry of AYUSH, conduct joint training programmes in AYUSH system of healthcare and explore possibilities of internship for its students in AYUSH institutions.

Thrust on short courses.

Several members of the EC called upon IIMC to launch industry specific short courses in communication, as part of skill development initiative. Members also suggested that industry experts should be involved in development of course content for Institute’s regular Diploma programmes as well as training programmes. Chairman Shri Amit Khare, who is also holding the additional charge of Secretary, School Education & Literacy, asked IIMC to implement e-Classroom project, linking IIMC New Delhi campus with all its regional campuses.

DG, IIMC K S Dhatwalia briefed the members about various activities of the Institute. He also said that Community Radio stations are being set up in all the regional campuses of IIMC at Aizawl, Dhenkanal, Jammu, Amravati and Kottayam. IIMC has already received licence for CR stations in Amravati and Aizawl.

The 50th Meeting of the IIMC Society was also held today, in which the audited accounts and the Annual Report 2018-19 were approved.
