IIT Bhubaneswar celebrates India’s Milestone in Semiconductor Sector Organizes session on ‘Chips for Viksit Bharat’

Bhubaneswar : Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has become a part of the momentous occasion that set a milestone for the semiconductor sector for the country today. Aligning with India’s Semi-Conductor Mission and with an aim to strengthen the semiconductor facilities in India, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid down the foundation stone of three Semiconductor facilities. These facilities are: India’s First Fab Facility in Dholera, Gujarat and Outsourced Assembly & Testing (OSAT) facilities in Sanand, Gujarat and Morigaon, Assam. The students, members of faculty and staff of IIT Bhubaneswar witnessed this programme through livestreaming.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar delivered a talk highlighting the unique features of Semiconductor Technology. He pointed out that it is a capital intensive hi-technology which involves processing of a material under stringent processing conditions and yields easy to use cost-effective products which are highly reliable and have high performance. However, since science came first before empiricism in its evolution, personnel involved in its management need to learn abstract theory and interdisciplinary knowledge.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar delivered a talk on ‘The Personality of Semiconductor Technology’. He shared the vital information regarding the semiconductor technology and the background on the development of this sector.

Mr. Manas Ranjan Panda, Special Secretary, Dept of Electronics & IT, Govt of Odisha and Managing Director, OCAC also graced the occasion. He spoke on the various initiatives being taken up in Odisha towards the development of the semiconductor sector. He also expressed interest towards having collaboration with IIT Bhubaneswar for further research and progress in this field.

Prof. P. V. Satyam from School of Basic Sciences spoke on the Semiconductor Eco-System in Bhubaneswar. Dr. Vijay Shankar Pasupureddi, Associate Head (Electronics and Communication Engineering) presented the Semiconductor Activity at IIT Bhubaneswar.
