IIT Gandhinagar community extended a helping hand for Cyclone Amphan and COVID-19 relief work

Gandhinagar: Expressing solidarity with fellow Indian citizens affected by the onslaught of the pandemic and natural calamities, the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) community has contributed a total amount of Rs 14, 17, 332/- in the span of about two and a half months towards relief and reconstruction work in India.

This amount has been collected on different occasions under the auspices of an institute level committee formed for generating support during natural calamities, and the contributions have been sent to central government and state government relief and crisis management avenues to help people affected by COVID-19 and Cyclone Amphan.

In this context, in June 2020, the IIT Gandhinagar community comprising faculty members, staff and students donated Rs 2, 25, 411/- to the West Bengal Chief Minister’s Relief Fund as a gesture of goodwill towards the affected people of West Bengal during Cyclone Amphan. Earlier, in the month of May 2020, faculty and staff members had contributed an amount of Rs 11, 91, 921/- from their salaries and personal savings to the PM CARES Fund to provide support to the fellow citizens affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

The IIT Gandhinagar community has always stood by the fellow Indians during such times of natural calamities. The Institute community had actively donated in cash and kind, for the relief work during Cyclone Fani in Orissa and flood in Kerala.
