IIT Guwahati and Mizoram University to jointly develop Teaching Programmes

The Institutes will encourage contact and cooperation between their faculty members, departments and research institutions and pursue various forms of cooperation

 

Guwahati: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is going to collaborate with Mizoram University in joint development of teaching programmes. The Institute will also cooperate in education and R&D activities besides promoting the exchange of students.

A MoU towards this collaboration was signed by Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, and Prof. K.R.S. Sambasiva Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Mizoram University on 26th July 2021. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prof. A. S. Achalkumar, Dean (Outreach Education Programme), IIT Guwahati and Dr. N. Mohondas Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, Mizoram University.

Highlighting the unique aspects of this collaboration, Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati said, “This is a memorable day for both the institutions to advance the research and academic collaborations and to emerge as winners which will serve the larger cause of the North-east India”.

IIT Guwahati and Mizoram University will encourage contact and cooperation between their faculty members, departments and research facilities. The Institutions will pursue cooperation through visits of faculty members to deliver lectures, conduct seminars, discussions, research and supervise student studies. Students would be encouraged to attend courses offered by the partner institutions and collaborate in research projects.

Speaking about the collaboration, Prof. K.R.S. Sambasiva Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Mizoram University, said, “Signing this MoU is an important step in advancing the relationship for both institutes and providing a valuable opportunity for the students of Mizoram University and facilitating the cooperation in teaching and research areas of mutual interest. It will help the students further to get exposure in advanced instrumentation and facilities available at IITG and will be having good scope and opportunities for fulfilling their academic zeal.”

IIT Guwahati was founded in 1994, is well-equipped with world-class infrastructure to with a global research ranking of 41 and an overall ranking of 395 in world. Mizoram University was created by an Act of Parliament (No. 8 of 2000) and it became functional from 2nd July 2001. MZU was accredited ‘A’ grade by NAAC in 2014 and 2019. It was also awarded ISO Certificate in 2018. The University was ranked as one of the top 100 Universities in India, assessed by the NIRF rankings from 2016 to 2020 under MHRD.
