Guwahati : A health awareness and free medical camp was organized at IIT Guwahati, by National Medicos Organization (NMO) and Seva Bharati, Purbanchal, in association with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell, IIT Guwahati, on 9th July, 2021.
The health camp was attended by about 200 contractual outsourced support staffs, domestic helpers, small shop staffs, etc.
Chairperson, Assam state commission for child rights, Dr. Sunita Changkakati, said, ‘It is very essential to observe COVID SOP, and vaccinate citizens, to reduce the impact of Covid and prevent future spread of this pandemic’.
Prof. TG Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati was elated by this free medical camp and mentioned that ‘Pandemic has brought back the age old Indian hygienic tradition of Namaste instead of handshake’. Prof. Sitharam, also added that ‘IIT Guwahati has set up School of health sciences and Technology (SHST) at IIT Guwahati for medical related post graduate programme already”. Along with that, setting up of a state-of-the art model super speciality hospital in the immediate future is also being discussed to serve the larger interest of the people of North-east and east India. The main purpose of setting up the health science and technology school and a hospital by the institute is to fulfil its commitment to deliver cutting-edge medical research based education and technology development, healthcare innovation, primary healthcare workers training cum services and capacity building.’
Former additional Director of health, Assam and advisor to National Medicos Organization, Assam, Dr. Bidyawati Das, said, ‘We are slowly recovering from the second wave of Covid, and in the event of a likely third wave, we all should be extra cautious. Following strict healthy habits, and keeping good health are utmost important.’
CA Pradip Kumar Mahata, Secretary, Seva Bharati, Guwahati, while thanking Prof. TG Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, mentioned that this kind of support in organizing the health camp at a renowned institute IIT Guwahati provides enormous faith among the citizens for assessing best medical facilities at their doorstep free of cost’.
Regional Coordinator, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, IIT Guwahati, Prof. Konjengbam Darunkumar Singh, observed that, ‘It is the first time that National Medics Organization and Seba Bharati have come together to organize a health camp, here in IIT Guwahati. Many people have benefited by the health camp. Considering the large turnout of people, we hope to organize many more such health camps in the future for enhancing the overall health of the citizens.’
Dr. Archana Sharma, National Organizing Secretary, National Medicos Organization, said ‘The mission of our team of dedicated doctors and staff (National Medicos Organization) is to serve the needy people. The health camp is one of the best ways of assisting people who require health attention and we are delighted by the support we get from IIT Guwahati’.
