IIT Jammu’s 4th Convocation Set to Award Degrees to 268 Graduating Students

 

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Jammu) is gearing up for its much-anticipated 4th Convocation, scheduled to take place on October 22, 2023. This prestigious event will bestow degrees upon 268 exceptional graduating students, including 179 BTech Students, 73 MTech Students, and 16 PhD students. Notably, 11 outstanding scholars will be honoured with medals in recognition of their remarkable achievements.

Distinguished guests and luminaries from the world of academia and industry will grace the occasion. The convocation ceremony is set to be enriched by the presence of Prof A Sivathanu Pillai, a Padma Bhushan & Padma Shri Awardee, Former Chief Controller of R&D at DRDO, and Founder CEO and MD of BrahMos Aerospace. Prof Pillai’s remarkable contributions to the field of defence and aerospace will undoubtedly inspire the graduates.

The commencement speaker for this auspicious event is Prof Noam Shpancer from Otterbein University, USA. In his inspirational message, Prof Shpancer encourages the graduating students to be fearless and emphasises the importance of the three Cs: Courage, Curiosity, and Caring. He urges them to embrace courage, nurture their curiosity, and prioritise caring for others, quoting the famous psychologist Sigmund Freud, who once said, “How bold one gets when one is sure of being loved.”

Dr. Sharad Kumar Saraf, Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT Jammu, will also grace the convocation with his esteemed presence. Dr. Saraf extends his warm congratulations to all the graduating students, emphasising that they are not just graduates but ambassadors of the esteemed institution. He has full confidence that they will continue the legacy of excellence and humanistic inventions.

As part of the institution’s tradition, the convocation will witness the unveiling of the “Desire Wings,” a sculpture dedicated to the outgoing batch of 2023. This stunning creation is the work of renowned artist Sumedh Rajendran from New Delhi. The sculpture symbolises the extraordinary power of human imagination to transcend borders and boundaries, bridging gaps between people living in different geographical areas.

The convocation event will not only be a platform for academic recognition but also a celebration of cultural diversity. On the evening of October 21, 2023, there will be a musical extravaganza titled “Mehfil-e–Saaz.” This captivating musical evening will showcase the harmonious convergence of musical traditions. Aditya Langeh, Mukteshi Sharma, and Rakesh Malhotra, along with accomplished instrumentalists, will captivate the audience with their mesmerising performances.
