IIT Kanpur organizes LEAP 2021 in New Delhi
Lucknow, UP: In its endeavour to groom more leaders within academicians, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is currently hosting the Leadership for Academicians Program (LEAP) in New Delhi this year.
The two-week training program followed by a week- long training at Oxford University, UK for 30 potential academic administrators, began on 19th February 2021 and will conclude on 4th March 2021.This program focuses on up-skilling second tier academic heads who are likely to assume leadership roles in the future. It helps in honing the skill of academic governance in these future leaders by conducting various activities aimed at developing skills like problem – solving, building team work, coping with complex situations, financial and administrational challenges, communication skills as well as conflict management. It is being coordinated under the chairmanship of Prof. Avinash Agarwal along with Prof. Vinod Singh, Prof. Shalabh, Prof. Braj Bhushan, and Prof. D Kundu for IIT Kanpur.
Abhay Karandikar, Director IIT Kanpur further added, “The goal of the programme is to develop the leadership skills of the academicians, teach them the principles and practices of good governance and the art of handle responsibility”
Interesting webinars and enlightening conversations kept the participants hooked as dignitaries from diverse fields gathered under one roof, united on a single platform, shedding light on different aspects of development in academics in an academic leaders. Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, DST illustrated and discussed the complexities of executing leadership in academia as well as its interaction with government policy formulation issues. While Prof. Deepak Pental, former Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University emphasized on improving the status of higher education system in India.
Prof. Manindra Agarwal, IIT Kanpur discussed the issues and challenges in faculty recruitment and for various types of developments in academic institutions at length. His brainstorming session was focused on how resource generation, financial self-reliance, teaching-research balance would undoubtedly help the future academic leaders. Shri. Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of health and family welfare took the audience through the challenges faced by the ministry as well as the efforts undertaken by them to combat the same. Shri. Pallava Bagla, a renowned Science Photo Journalist elucidated on how visuals and photographs can be leveraged by adopting clever methodologies for effective and engaging communication.
LEAP is a three week flagship Leadership Development initiative undertaken by the Ministry Of Education, Government Of India for public funded higher education institutions under the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Training ( PMMMNMTT) Scheme.
