IIT Madras Alumni Association Thought Conclave to feature Lt.Gov. Kiran Bedi, Anil Kumble and Rana Daggubati

 

Chennai: IIT Madras Alumni Association (IITMAA) is hosting a Thought Conclave – ‘IITMAA Sangam — Confluence for Impact’ – on 29th September 2018 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee year of IIT Madras. It’ll bring thought leaders under a single roof from across disciplines and walks of life such as technology, banking, digital, healthcare and space travel who are powering India’s emergence as a 21st century leader on the global stage.

Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Puducherry Dr. Kiran Bedi IPS, (Retd.) will inaugurate the Conclave. Speakers include former Indian cricketer Mr. Anil Kumble, actor Rana Daggubati, Indian Astronaut Wg.Cdr. Rakesh Sharma, Dr. Indu Bhushan Chief Executive Officer of Ayushman Bharat (National Health Protection Mission) and National Health Agency besides Dr. Nachiket Mor, Country Director, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

IITMAA represents over 45,000 alumni of IIT Madras in various chapters spread across the globe, joining hands to make IIT Madras a world-class institution.

Speaking about this Conclave, Ms. Shuba Kumar, President, IITMAA, said, “This event is the inaugural edition of what we believe will become an annual ritual for IIT Madras alumni to discuss new ideas, collaborate to deliver impact and reconnect with each other as well as the IIT Madras ecosystem.”

IITMAA is connecting more of the alumni back to the institute through re-unions. As a result, the number of alumni coming back to institute has increased, which provides more opportunities for students to connect with them regarding mentoring and learning about higher education opportunities. As part of the program, IITMAA will also give away awards to alumni and faculty involved in projects of social impact. The association, as part of the Confluence for Impact, will also invite proposals from non-profit organisations in various sectors like Education, Skill Development, Healthcare, etc. to involve IITM alumni to support with mentoring, funding and volunteering.

IITMAA aims to impact 10,0000 people in one year and involve at least 1000 alumni across the country in social projects through its various chapters.

Highlighting the unique aspects of the event, Mr. Madhusudan C.P., Secretary, IITMAA, said, “IITMAA Sangam is the ideal platform to meet and interact with a large number of IITM Alumni and students. The topics chosen are not only of great interest to society at large but are also avenues where the Alumni and participants can contribute to significantly.”

IITMAA is also organizing a ‘Research Roadshow @ IIT Madras’ on Friday (28th September 2018). As part of this, students from other engineering colleges and members of the public will be taken around to some of the cutting-edge facilities at IIT Madras including the student-run Center for Innovation, which provides students a platform to work on their own ideas outside of academic curriculum, National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD), the world’s largest combustion research centre, Robert Bosch Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, IIT Madras Incubation Cell and Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre (HTIC)/
