CHENNAI : Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is all set to host the 12th Edition of the annual Inter-IIT Tech Meet from 19th to 22nd of December 2023. This will be the first fully offline Tech meet since the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, the event is expected to witness a footfall of nearly 1,000 students across the IITs. They will be participating in 13 competitions ranging from product management, quantum computing, game development, mathematics and cybersecurity.

The Inter-IIT Tech Meet will also feature events that are part of the ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’ nation-wide campaign.

The Inter-IIT Tech Meet is an annual pan-IIT competition, set to test the technical skills of IIT students in solving real-world problems which can impact millions of lives. This highly-competitive event puts some of the best minds in the country up against one another as they solve challenging issues faced in the world of robotics, Artificial Intelligence, finance and many other fields, for 2 months, finally culminating in the offline meet.

Speaking about this annual event, Prof. Satyanaranya Gummadi, Dean (Students), IIT Madras, said, “We are happy to host the Inter-IIT Tech Meet at IIT Madras and I am sure this four-day event will create an opportunity for the students to learn different things for their career goals. This is also an opportunity for the like-minded students from different IITs who can also interact and create networking activity among the brightest minds.”

As hosts, IIT Madras is responsible for coming up with industrial problem statements that the students will be solving, and also providing them a platform to interact with peers, industrial experts and professors through networking events and project showcases.

Lauding the IIT Madras students organizing the event, Prof. V. Sriram, Faculty Advisor (Co-curricular Activities), IIT Madras, said, “It is really amazing to see the young bright minds of the next generation goes beyond the classroom and showcase their potential with the industry-related problems that are need of the hour.”

Over the four days, students will have the opportunity to present their solutions to experts in the field, and forge new relations with peers and industry professionals to drive collaborations which could move the country ahead.

The papers and projects showcased at the Students’ Academic Conference and the Engineers Conclave will be open to viewing for the public. This edition will also be the first one with a ‘no-prep event’ – an event requiring participants to come up with solutions on the spot – since the lockdown.

Elaborating further on the event, Prof. Nilanjan Saha, Convenor of the Inter-IIT Tech meet, said, “This meet will bring out solutions of the real-world challenges from the best students within IITs that have a profound impact on environment and society. This will potentially inspire young entrepreneurs to drive innovation by understanding emerging technologies.”

STUDENTS EXPERIENCE

Mr. Archish S, Student Convener, Inter-IIT Tech Meet 2023, IIT Madras, said “When the best of the IITs work together, there is bound to be something great coming out of it. And a competitive setting pushes the bar just that bit higher. What is the point of learning about technology if we cannot impact the world?”

Mr. Prabhat B, student Co-convener, Inter-IIT Tech Meet, 2023, IIT Madras, said, “Although this is portrayed as a competitive event, its constructive nature cannot be ignored – providing a platform for the best minds in the country to interact is a crucial step in the changing the face of how tech is seen in our world.”
