IIT Roorkee celebrates National Technology Day with the theme of School to Startups – Igniting Young Minds to Innovate  

 Roorkee : In commemoration of National Technology Day, IIT Roorkee organized series of activities, with Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), the Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand, as the chief guest. The day featured events showcasing innovation, excellence, and the spirit of technological advancement.

Following the National Technology Day’s theme of “School to Startups: Igniting Young Minds to Innovate,” IITR organized a dynamic Student Tech Fair, providing a stage for emerging innovators and entrepreneurs to showcase their projects and ideas. Ranging from sustainable energy solutions to artificial intelligence applications, the fair highlighted the imaginative and resourceful nature of the upcoming generation of technologists. These projects, crafted by school students, not only provided insight into the future of technology but also sparked inspiration among young individuals to pursue careers in STEM.

A highlight of the celebration was a captivating weapon demonstration by the Indian Army, showcasing the defense sector’s technologies and capabilities, and impressing attendees with its display of national security technology.

Building upon a recent MoU between MHI and IIT Roorkee, aimed at fostering collaboration, an Industry Accelerator for AARTI (Automotive and Allied Research and Technology Innovation) has been initiated at IIT Roorkee to drive innovation in the automotive and electric vehicle sectors. Yali Mobility, a startup supported under AARTI (Automotive and Allied Research and Technology Innovation) in partnership with IIT Roorkee, has generously contributed an electric vehicle (EV) customized for Divyangjan. This initiative seeks to improve campus accessibility, empowering individuals with disabilities to navigate academic and social environments seamlessly.

Furthermore, the event also featured other startups/industries that are being supported for the development and manufacturing of their products. Among these are the Axial Flux Motor and Controller by Bodycast Innovators Private Limited, the Development of Modular Electric 2-wheeler Platform by Creatara Mobility Private Limited, and the Cell Sorting Machine and Spot-welding Machine by Maestrotech Systems Private Limited.

The event featured a panel discussion centered on the theme “School to Startups: Igniting Young Minds to Innovate,” moderated by Prof. Akshay Dvivedi, Dean of Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy at IIT Roorkee. The distinguished panelists, including Lt. General Ajai Kumar Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, Indian Army, Prof. N K Navani, Dean of Academic Affairs at IIT Roorkee, Mr. Sandeep Pant, Principal of Army Public School 2, and Dr. Abha Rishi, Chairperson of the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development at Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), engaged in discussions on strategies, initiatives, and best practices to foster an entrepreneurial mindset from an early age. They deliberated on equipping students with the skills and mindset necessary to thrive in the dynamic landscape of the startup ecosystem and the role Higher Education Institutions like IIT Roorkee can play in this endeavor.

During the event, Hon’ble Governor (Retd.) Lt. General Gurmeet Singh said, As students and entrepreneurs you’re instrumental in shaping our society and nation. Together, we envision a future marked by prosperity, economic growth, and scientific advancement—a vision of a new India. Today, we stand on the cusp of a new era, where innovation and entrepreneurship aren’t just words but pathways to our collective destiny. Let’s harness the power of a robust Research and Development (R&D) ecosystem to drive progress, and seize the growth potential of regions like Uttarakhand.”

 

During the event, IIT Roorkee also felicitated Lt. General Ajai Kumar Singh, General – Officer – Commanding–in–Chief, Southern Command, Indian Army. Lt. General Ajai Kumar Singh is celebrated for his strategic insight and unwavering commitment to national security. General Singh’s contributions have been pivotal in fortifying India’s defense capabilities. Respected in the military community, his professionalism and integrity serve as an inspiration to future generations.

Lt. General Ajai Kumar Singh said, “I’m thrilled to witness the emergence of school startups here at IITR, showcasing the entrepreneurial zeal and innovation inherent in our youth. These fledgling ventures represent the future of our nation’s economy and technological landscape. As leaders and mentors, we must provide these aspiring entrepreneurs with guidance, resources, and encouragement. Let’s foster an environment where creativity flourishes, risks are embraced, and ideas are transformed into tangible solutions that address real-world challenges. The Governor’s visit to IITR on National Technology Day served as a reminder of the pivotal role of technology in shaping the future and underscored the commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in the country.

The occasion was graced by Prof. UP Singh, the Deputy Director of IIT Roorkee, who delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for the Governor’s visit and emphasizing the institute’s dedication to technological advancement. As Prof. Singh aptly remarked, “Innovation is the cornerstone of progress, and today, we recommit ourselves to this pursuit.”

Dr. Hema Pant, the wife of the Director of IIT Roorkee, added an aura of elegance to the event with her presence, further enriching the gathering. Additionally, Prof. Avlokita adeptly moderated the proceedings, ensuring a smooth and engaging exchange of ideas.
