IIT Ropar delegation to visit international universities/institutes for research collaborations
Rupnagar: In its effort to further strengthen its position as a leading institute in science & technology education, knowledge creation and innovation, The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar is embarking on overseas tour for research collaborations, in the first week of October 2017. The academic delegation led by Prof. Sarit K Das, Director, IIT Ropar along with senior senators and functionaries will visit Canada, Germany and Unites States. The delegation aims to foster academic and research linkages with world’s leading universities in these countries.
In Canada, the delegation would visit Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, where an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the two universities. Thereafter, the delegation would visit SUNY Polytechnic, Albany and MIT, Boston. An MoU would be signed with the former while a thematic research collaboration will be forged with the latter. In the last leg of the visit, delegation will be going to TU, Darmstadt, Germany where an MoU will be inked. The objective of these agreements will be to facilitate faculty and student exchange, Joint proposals, Joint workshops and seminars and other academic & research initiatives.
Another key objective of the delegation visit is to undertake faculty hiring in various departments of IIT Ropar. For this, faculty interviews will be conducted in Vancouver, Boston, Chicago and Darmstadt. The aim of this activity is to attract bright and motivated Indian graduates and Post Doctorates. In its last leg, the delegation also aims to actively engage with the Punjabi diaspora that are residing in these countries. To the end, NRI meets will be held in Vancouver and Chicago. The objective of the meetings will be involving NRIs in the evolution of this new IIT and to seek grants and endowments for joint research initiatives with NRIs that have societal benefits.
Speaking about the tour, Prof. Sarit K Das, Director, IIT Ropar said, “The primary objective of the delegation is to collaborate with leading universities and foster academic and research collaborations. The collaboration will include joint research programmes, seminars, student and faculty exchange programmes, which will enable cross learning between researchers from both sides. We will also be meeting candidates and interviewing them for research and faculty positions at the Institute. Our aim is to attract bright and motivated Indian researchers and bring them back.”
Overall, the tour will look at building strong international research collaborations and relationships with the Indian diaspora and aim to bring back some of the best talent overseas as faculty at the institute.
