Imperial College London honoured with Financial Times teaching award for sustainability programme
The Business School’s Sustainability Leadership Executive Education programme has won a FT Responsible Business Education award for teaching cases.
The Sustainability Leadership programme, which is delivered by Imperial’s Executive Education team in collaboration with the Leonardo Centre on Business for Society was recognised among award submissions that “touched on some of the most important issues for promoting sustainable development but also demonstrated novel ways to teach digitally in a more inclusive way.”
The programme, which was launched last year, aims to provide executives with the methods and mindset to help them create more impactful sustainability plans for their businesses.
During the 13-week online programme, participants learn how to run a more sustainable business and promote a corporate culture that prioritises social responsibility, drawing on expertise from Imperial’s academics, together with insights from industry experts and case studies.
The programme is suitable for senior executives, corporate social responsibility and sustainability specialists, mid to senior level managers in industries such as energy, industrial goods, logistics, and manufacturing and consultants seeking to offer their clients solutions to help them achieve their sustainability goals. Notable participants from the first cohort include Leila Ben Hassen, who was named among the top 100 most influential women in Africa by New African Woman Magazine for her work in gender equality advocacy and the blue economy.
Developing a more sustainable mindset
One of the highlights of the programme is an optional meditation module, which is designed to help participants develop a mindset that can help towards making lasting change. Participants also gain valuable insights from experts at Imperial’s Leonardo Centre on Business for Society and have access to the GOLDEN database, a digital database of sustainability initiatives by over 5,000 companies spanning the past 30 years, across all key sectors and countries and categorised by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Professor Francisco Veloso, Dean of Imperial College Business School said: “Congratulations to my colleagues in Executive Education and the Leonardo Centre for this incredible achievement. This award recognises the fantastic work the Business School is doing to drive societal change through an innovative and forward-thinking Executive Education programme that helps business leaders make positive and lasting change in their organisations.”
The Financial Times Responsible Business Education Awards, now in its second year, aims to “acknowledge those institutions, researchers and alumni whose efforts are helping recast business.” This is the second time Imperial has been successful in the FT awards, following an award given for research impact in 2022 for a paper which looks at the financial issues facing farmers in Tanzania.
The Business School’s recent partnership with Bain, a global management consulting firm, in delivering a sustainability themed Executive Education programme for Bain’s employees, was also highlighted by the FT in the special report about the awards.
