Impressive Dog Show, Innovative Farmers’ Deliberations mark Day-4 of Kisan mela 2021

 

Jammu: An impressive Dog show was organized at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu on the fourth day of Kisan Mela.

Dr. S. P. Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, NDVSU, Jabalpur was chief guest and Dr. Janardan Singh, Former Dean, BHU, Varanasi was guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tiwari elaborated the importance of pet dog in the lives of children, elderly and lonely persons. Dr. Janardan Singh spoke about the faithfulness of dog and stressed on participation of local breed of dogs reared by farming communities for protection of their fields. Eighty dogs of 18 different breeds participated in the dog Show.

More than 500 dog lovers thronged the venue. Different competitions for dog breeds were conducted and overall championship trophy was awarded jointly to Doggo Argentina owned by Anurag Suryavanshi and Cane corso owned by Anshu Bhat. German Shepherd owned by Baltej Singh received prize in the category of Most attractive dog.

Apart from these prizes, gift hampers were given to all the participating owners. Himalaya, Pedigree, Drools, EkTek Pharma, Wiggle, Suvidha Pet Clinic and Research Centre, Vet Quinol, Intas and TTK Pharma and others participated and sponsored the show. Judges of the competition were Dr. P. S. Bindra, Dr. Bhanu Khajuria, Dr. Abhimanyu and Dr. Shah Nawaz Khan. Prof. J. S. Soodan and Dr. Ashok Kumar were the Convener and Co-Convener, respectively for the show.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor, Prof. J. P. Sharma, along with Dr. Mohammad Aslam, Ex-Advisor DBT and Dr. A. K. Rawat, Ex- Advisor, DBT visited and inspected various stalls of Kisan mela.

Another event organized at Baba Jitto Auditorium, witnessed innovative farmers’ interaction. The Jammu and Kashmir UT shared their experiences of farming and motivated other farmers to adopt modern innovative agricultural and allied technologies.

About twenty farmers presented their innovative farming practices on dairying, poultry, commercial nursery, mushroom cultivation, saffron cultivation, apple cultivation, vegetable cultivation, water management, preservation of local germplasm and Integrated farming system.

Secretary Kisan Board, J&K UT, Abdul Hamid Wani was the chief Guest on the occasion. Kulbhushan Khajuria, Member Kisan Board and Satish Babu Reddy, Progressive Farmer were guest of honour.

Prof. Rakesh Nanda, Head, Agricultural Extension Education, Dr. Vinod Gupta, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK, Samba and Dr. Prem Kumar, Scientist, Fisheries were convener, co-convener and facilitator, respectively during the program. In addition to above events, Kisan Goshti, field visits, passport mela and rural sports were also main attractions on the 4th consecutive day of Kisan Mela 2021. During Kisan Goshti, lectures on improved technologies of agriculture and allied sectors were delivered by the experts. Also, during farmers-scientists interaction, queries of the farmers were satisfied by the scientists. Farmers also got firsthand experience of field crops during their visit to different field crop experimental plots at the University farm. Dr. Dileep Kachroo, Ex-Registrar, SKUAST Jammu chaired the Kisan Goshti and deliberated on importance of location specific Farming System Technologies for socio-economic upliftment of the farmers. During Kisan Goshti, Sh. Satish Babu Reddy, Progressive Farmer delivered lecture on India’s Century Old Traditional Agriculture and was honoured by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. J. P. Sharma. Proceedings of Kisan Goshti were conducted by Dr. Amrish Vaid, I/c Mega Seed Unit.
