At IMT Hyderabad campus, sports and fitness is a part of routine job
Hyderabad: Apart from classes, case studies, projects, studies and discussions, sports is considered as an indispensable part of campus routine at the Institute of Management Technology, Hyderabad, which has managed to make a prominent name for itself among the top B Schools of Southern India.
“Here, a healthy lifestyle is embedded in the campus culture. Sports help to bring about an overall holistic improvement to our physical well-being and it goes beyond students and faculties. Other stake holders of the institute like the corporate – are also invited to participate in various games and sports, in the campus. Idea is to promote and encourage people to pursue a healthy lifestyle as against leading a sedentary one which is a major cause for burn-outs”, said Prof. Dr. Satish Ailawadi, Director IMT Hyderabad.
The institute hosted two of it’s mega sporting events – ‘Ace Connect’ and ‘Periodos’ in succession where various organizations from the corporate and colleges were invited in the campus.
“Ace Connect is an event where corporate takes the field to participate in various sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Basketball and Table Tennis. The participating teams this year were from corporates like: Oracle, Infosys, Covidien, TCS, InRhythms, JDA Software, Microsoft, CDK Global. The corporate members stay in the campus over a period of two days and at the end of the event the award distribution takes place followed by cultural program” informed Prof. Nitin Gupta, faculty marketing.
The 5th version of ‘Periodos’ saw teams from top business schools compete against each other in various sports like Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Basketball, Throw ball etc. and demonstrate their sporting talents. Teams from SIBM-Hyderabad, ICFAI Business School-Hyderabad, ICFAI Business School-Pune, IMT-Nagpur, NMIMS-Hyderabad, VJIM- Hyderabad and various other colleges participated in the two day event.
“There is good evidence that these sporting events and engagement in physical activities reduce stress, boost productivity and increase performance at work. Monotony of regular class room lectures has been also minimized by out-door work and participation in games and sports, which generate healthy competitive spirit and interest in life among students”, added Prof. Nitin Gupta.
